Private education is not on the sidelines.

GD&TĐ - The Law on Teachers affirms that all teachers, whether in public or private schools, are components of the national education system.

Beyond legal recognition, this also serves as an impetus for private schools to invest systematically and professionally in their staff.

A big step forward

According to the Law on Teachers, for the first time in Vietnam's education legal system, the concept of a teacher has been established uniformly, without distinction between public and private schools. All teachers, regardless of the type of school they teach in, must be trained, educated, and operate within a common professional standard framework.

This is considered a major step forward by administrators and teachers, contributing to professional equity, improving the quality of education, and promoting balanced development among schools.

Ms. Phung Thi Loan, Executive Director of the High School Divisionat FPT School Da Nang, believes that the new regulations affirm the position of private school teachers in the national education system and resonate with the philosophy that "people are the most important resource" that FPT Schools has always pursued. "Legalizing professional standards and unifying them within the system reinforces our belief that the quality of education must be ensured fairly and sustainably, regardless of whether it's a public or private model," Ms. Loan shared.

The new law demonstrates respect and fair recognition for non-public school teachers – who are making increasingly significant contributions to the national education system. Expressing this view, Mr. Tong Thien Long – Principal of Sky-Line Primary, Secondary, and High School in Da Nang (Education System)

Sky-Line also assessed that: When professional standards are standardized, each teacher has the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, contribute, and be evaluated transparently. This is an incentive for private schools to boldly invest in sustainable career development paths, from recruitment to compensation.

In Dak Lak province, where the private school system is thriving, the Law on Teachers has been received with enthusiasm and a proactive spirit. Mr. Nguyen Phu, Deputy Principal of Dong Du Secondary and High School (Tan An, Dak Lak), commented: “The new law not only recognizes the status of private school teachers but also motivates the school to continue investing heavily in and developing its teaching staff, in line with modern educational orientations.”

Proactive transformation

Instead of worrying about the new requirements, many private schools in Central and Central Highlands regions see this as an opportunity to comprehensively standardize and professionalize their teaching staff.

At Dong Du Secondary and High School, the review of teachers' professional standards according to the new regulations has been seriously implemented. The school has developed a professional development plan suitable for each subject, encouraging teachers to learn and apply new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and STEM education in teaching. Professional development activities are also organized in an innovative way, linked to the development of students' qualities and competencies.

At Sky-Line, the standardization plan is implemented systematically and in depth. The school develops individual career development paths for each teacher, connects with professional development units, and applies core competency groups including: in-depth expertise, ethics and conduct, personalized curriculum design, collaboration and professional development skills, integration capabilities, and technology. Flexible training methods (offline, online, 1:1 mentoring), combined with assessment, allow teachers to learn anytime, anywhere.

At FPT School Da Nang, a strong learning culture is considered core, with each teacher required to complete at least 35 hours of self-study per year through the Coursera platform. The school also organizes in-depth training sessions, grouped by level; combining inter-school exchanges and training with experiential projects to develop practical skills.

Similarly, Victory Primary, Secondary, and High School (Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak) is actively promoting the development of a personalized training system. According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Phat, Vice Principal, the school actively collaborates with reputable training centers and education experts to organize workshops on innovative teaching methods and the integration of technology in teaching, in accordance with the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program. A culture of lifelong learning is maintained by encouraging teachers to share and spread the spirit of learning throughout the school.

According to administrators, standardizing professional standards between public and private school teachers creates both pressure and opportunities. For private schools, this necessitates systematic investment in human resources, rather than relying solely on flexibility as before.

In response to the new demands, Ms. Phung Thi Loan observed: "Without reasonable compensation and a positive organizational culture, private schools will find it difficult to retain talented teachers. Therefore, investing in the learning ecosystem, field training, professional community development, and comprehensive welfare is crucial for survival."

Mr. Tong Thien Long also stated that the absence of a "comfort zone" means that private schools must meet comprehensive standards in terms of expertise, ethics, and professional skills. "Sky-Line considers professional standards not just as a goal, but as a foundation for long-term team development. We aim to build a team that leads innovation with genuine competence and a passion for the profession," Mr. Long emphasized.

According to Mr. Luu Tien Quang, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training, the province has more than 100 private schools. The Law on Teachers not only affirms the equal role of public and private teachers in the national education system, but also opens up a new direction for private schools in the sustainable development of their teaching staff. When teachers are recognized, invested in, and developed properly, it means that the quality of education is genuinely and sustainably improved.
