World-famous Vietnamese professor in the field of microchips passes away

(Dan Tri) - Professor Dang Luong Mo, a world-famous Vietnamese scientist in the field of microchips, an overseas Vietnamese with many contributions to the country, passed away on the afternoon of May 6.

According to information from the family of Professor Dang Luong Mo, he passed away on the afternoon of May 6 after a period of serious illness.

Prof. Dr. Dang Luong Mo is an honorary professor at Hosei University (Japan) and a senior advisor at Ho Chi Minh City National University. He has just been honored as one of 60 outstanding individuals in the cause of building, protecting and developing Ho Chi Minh City in the period 1975-2025.

Professor Dang Luong Mo was born in 1936 in Kien An, Hai Phong. After completing high school, he moved with his family to Ho Chi Minh City.

He then passed the entrance exam to the School of Technology Engineering (the predecessor of the Faculty of Mechanics, Saigon University of Technology).

In 1957, at the age of 21, he was selected and received a scholarship from the Japanese Government to study electronics.

He graduated from Tokyo University in 1962, two years later he received his Master's degree and in 1968 he successfully defended his PhD thesis there.

From 1968 to 1971, he was a research specialist at Toshiba Central Research Institute, Japan. After that, he returned to Vietnam to teach at Saigon University of Science (now the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University).

During this time, he also taught at the National Institute of Technology (now Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology) as director of the electrical school (equivalent to the head of the electrical department today).

Since 1973, he has been the President of the National Academy of Technology (equivalent to the title of President of Saigon University of Technology).

In 1975, he returned to Japan to continue his work as a senior researcher at the Toshiba Central Research Institute, Japan.

From 1983 to 2002, he was invited to be a lecturer as Professor at Hosei University, Tokyo, Japan.

In 2002, he returned to Vietnam. Immediately after returning home, he taught and guided postgraduates at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, taking on the role of Head of the Organizing Committee to establish the Overseas Vietnamese Science and Technology Club.

In particular, he laid the foundation for the establishment of the Center for Research and Training in Microchip Design (ICDREC), the Department of Microchip Design and Simulation Research and the Microelectronics Postgraduate Training Program under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

During his life, Professor Dang Luong Mo had more than 300 research works and more than 10 inventions and patents. Many of his research works have been published or cited in research books published in the US, especially textbooks used at American universities.

He was elected to the New York Academy of Sciences in 1992 and is also a senior member of the Society of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE, USA).
