According to data from Agoda's 2026 Travel Outlook Report, young travelers are increasingly viewing travel as an essential part of their lives. Instead of planning one long trip a year, young people are breaking it down into smaller, more manageable trips that can be easily integrated between work, study, and personal life.
Surveys show that 81% of young travelers plan to take up to six trips in the next year, while nearly 80% choose stays of less than a week. This trend is not unique to Vietnam; it's also evident in many Asian markets such as India and Thailand, indicating that travel is gradually becoming normalized and a regular activity rather than just a peak season.
Cost remains a significant factor in the decisions of this group of travelers. Up to 55% of young Vietnamese people stated that budget is a major influence on their travel choices. Notably, 49% are willing to choose less popular destinations to optimize costs while also exploring new experiences.

A notable trend is that young people are no longer so focused on where they go but rather on the meaning of the trip, who they travel with, and what special experiences they will have. Data shows that 48% of travelers choose to explore culture, 42% are interested in local cuisine, and 58% seek relaxation, rejuvenation, and healing.
In particular, travel associated with music and festivals is becoming a prominent trend. Approximately 21% of Gen Z said they are willing to plan a trip just to attend music concerts, festivals, or sporting events.
According to Future Market Insights, the global music tourism market is currently worth approximately $6.4 billion and could grow to $15.5 billion in the next 10 years. In response to this trend, many travel companies and airlines are launching packages combining "music, relaxation, and local experiences," which include show tickets along with accommodation, city tours, and culinary exploration.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director of Agoda in Vietnam, noted that young people are redefining travel towards greater flexibility, enhanced experiences, and treating travel as a normal activity or habit without needing a long vacation. This trend also places new demands on the tourism industry. Short, flexible, affordable, and experience-rich travel packages are predicted to continue to dominate in the coming time.
