On the morning of October 19th, hundreds of junior and senior high school students gathered at Vo Truong Toan High School (District 12) to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education and Training (VET) Enrollment and Career Guidance Fair.
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Vocational Education and Training Career Guidance and Recruitment Fair took place on the morning of October 19th.
This event is jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Department of Education and Training. The series of events will be held at 22 locations (each district, county, and Thu Duc City will organize one festival).
At the event, N., a 9th-grade student, asked the counseling panel for guidance, explaining that despite excelling in all subjects, he still hasn't found a career path he enjoys. Career guidance is very uncertain for N. The male student worries about where to begin choosing a career and whether it's too late to start considering it.
Middle school students enthusiastically listen to the expert's advice.
Many questions were answered by the advisory panel right during the program.
Instead of offering immediate advice, psychologist Vo Minh Thanh asked N. a number of questions, such as: Besides school, do you participate in other activities? Which subject are you most confident in? Do you prefer working in an office or an open-plan environment? Do you prefer working with machines or with people? Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
"Instead of asking students if they like major A, parents and teachers should support students in exploring it from different angles. Simple questions about their studies, daily life, and hobbies can help students identify some career paths they might pursue in the future," advised Mr. Thanh.
The students filled out the career survey forms.
Students learn about "hot" majors at Saigon College of Technology.
The event disseminated information related to career guidance, student placement after graduation, and information on human resource needs in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
Speaking at the event, in addition to their three choices for high school, many 9th-grade students expressed a desire to have one or two more vocational training options to increase their educational opportunities.
In addition to asking career experts for answers to their questions, students also had the opportunity to visit exhibition booths and learn about the professions offered by vocational schools and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Le Van Thinh, Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said that in recent years, graduates from vocational schools have contributed significantly to the socio -economic development of the city. Vocational education graduates account for a high proportion of the workforce in domestic and foreign corporations and companies.
Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Le Van Thinh, emphasized the role of career guidance and student streaming.
To make vocational education and training a new and effective path for students, Mr. Thinh suggested that career counseling experts should fully convey information about job positions and the city's human resource needs in the medium and long term; and provide career guidance and orientation for students based on their abilities and strengths.
Colleges and vocational schools should provide clear advice on training programs, opportunities for further education after graduation, and opportunities to participate in training courses and work abroad.
