Bringing families together

Attending a weekend meeting at the Happy Family Club in Xuan Dong village with leaders from the Van Hung Commune Women's Union, we clearly felt the warm, friendly, and sharing atmosphere. Here, members enjoyed cultural performances; exchanged experiences on building happy families, raising children well, maintaining family happiness, and supporting each other in life. The atmosphere became even more lively with a democratic flower-picking activity, answering questions about building happy families; preventing and combating domestic violence; and the criteria for a "5 no's, 3 clean" family... The meeting not only created a beneficial playground but also strengthened family bonds. Ms. Pham Thi Hoa, a member of the club, shared: “Since joining the club, I have learned many good things about how to behave, maintain family happiness, and raise children and grandchildren. The things I've learned have given me more experience to apply to my life and pass on to my children. Now, all four of my children have gotten married and have stable, happy lives, so I am very happy.”

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, Head of the Women's Association in Xuan Dong village and Chairperson of the Club, the club was established in October 2020 and meets every three months. Initially, the club only had 5 families, but thanks to its effective activities, it now has 35 participating families. At the meetings, in addition to disseminating knowledge about building happy families, preventing and combating domestic violence, and preventing and controlling diseases, the club also carries out association activities and organizes awards for exemplary families at the end of the year. The club also participates in environmental sanitation and mosquito larva eradication. To maintain its activities, each participating family contributes 1 million VND. The fund is used to provide low-interest loans to members for economic development; the interest earned is used for living expenses and to visit members when they are sick. Currently, the fund has 35 million VND, which is rotated among members every six months. In addition, families also participate in a monthly revolving fund with no interest, contributing 1 million VND per family to support each other with additional capital for economic development.

Replicating the model

The Happy Family Club of Phuoc Nhon 2 village, Xuan Hai commune, was established in February 2017 with 17 participating families, holding regular quarterly meetings. Besides supporting members in building happy families and sharing effective farming and livestock experiences, the club also maintains a revolving fund of 500,000 VND per family, providing loans every three months at low interest rates to help members develop their businesses. The profits are used for expenses and to provide gifts to elderly people living alone and families in difficult circumstances. Members also collect and sell scrap materials to raise funds for charitable activities and participate in environmental cleanup. Ms. Tai Thi Hong Van, the club's chairperson, said: "Previously, some families experienced domestic violence, but since joining the club and receiving guidance on building a warm and happy family, this situation has disappeared, and family life has become increasingly stable. The club also organizes trips and tours for its members to strengthen their bonds."

Similarly, the "Civilized and Happy Family Club" was established by the Cam Ranh Ward Women's Union in March 2026 with 11 participating families, meeting every three months. During these meetings, the club organizes activities to disseminate information, share experiences on building a prosperous, progressive, and happy life; create a space for interaction and bonding through fun games; and honor exemplary families... Through these efforts, it contributes to building a cultural life in the locality.

Based on its positive results, the model has been implemented and replicated in many communes and wards such as Nam Ninh Hoa, Tan Dinh, Dong Ninh Hoa, Do Vinh, Cam Ranh, Bac Cam Ranh, Ninh Phuoc, Phuoc Huu, Dien Lac, etc. Ms. Nguyen Hoang Van Ha - Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union - said that through these activities, the Happy Family Clubs not only help members improve their knowledge about building happy families; preventing and combating domestic violence; and raising children well, but also create community cohesion, spread the spirit of mutual support and assistance in economic development. In the future, the Women's Union at all levels will continue to maintain and improve the quality of the clubs' activities and replicate models suitable to each locality to better support members and women in building progressive, civilized, prosperous, and happy families.
