The Ministry of Transport has just sent an official dispatch to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the Transport Design Consultancy Corporation (TEDI) on the proposal to plan the second airport in the Capital region in the master plan on development of the port system. airlines and airports nationwide in the period of 2-2021, with a vision to 2030.
Previously, the Ministry of Transport received Official Letter No. 1382/UBND-GT from the Hanoi People's Committee proposing the planning of the second airport in the Hanoi Capital region in the master plan on development of the airport system and international airports. for the period of 2-2021, with a vision to 2030.
In this document, the Hanoi People's Committee proposes to adjust and determine the nature and function of the second airport in Hanoi capital as an international airport; at the same time, request the Ministry of Transport to study, determine the location and planning criteria for the City People's Committee to add to the ongoing Capital Planning, ensuring consistency.
Before Hanoi's proposal, the Ministry of Transport said that in order to have a sufficient basis for consideration and settlement, the Ministry proposed the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, TEDI (consulting unit for planning the airport system) to study the interior of the airport. content of the proposal of the City People's Committee and report the handling plan before May 27.
In the previous Hanoi petition, it was stated that the Hanoi Capital area has a population size forecasted to be about 2050-21 million people by 23, with a total area of about 24.314 km2, basically similar to that of Ho Chi Minh City. In the master plan on development of the national airport and airport system for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Ministry of Transport shall submit to the Government for consideration and approval the orientation of planning two international airports for Ho Chi Minh City. .HCM (including Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh with a total capacity of about 2 million passengers/year).
However, the second airport of the Hanoi region is only planned as a domestic airport.
Therefore, according to the Hanoi People's Committee, it is necessary to plan the second airport to be an international port to meet the corresponding transportation needs, ensure security and aviation safety, reserve the land fund as well as save the land. such as distribution of transportation demand, creating a driving force for balanced development in the capital.
