Two Vietnamese candidates achieved perfect scores on the TOEFL Junior test.

On the afternoon of August 18th in Hanoi , the closing ceremony and awards presentation for the TOEFL Primary Challenge & TOEFL Junior Challenge English competitions for the 2023-2024 school year took place.

At the awards ceremony, 32 outstanding primary and secondary school students who won national-level awards were honored, along with awards for students who won provincial and city-level awards nationwide.

Now in its 12th year, the TOEFL Primary Challenge & TOEFL Junior Challenge English competition is being implemented nationwide by IIG Vietnam Education Organization - the national representative of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) of the United States.

This is an intellectual playground for Vietnamese students, providing opportunities to experience, test their skills, and access international English certification exams. From there, it ignites passion and spreads the movement of learning English according to international standards in the trend of global integration.

The 2023-2024 season saw the participation of thousands of contestants from over 1,200 primary schools and nearly 590 secondary schools in 12 provinces and cities nationwide.

At the national finals, the contestants' results demonstrated that the younger generation of Vietnamese people possesses an excellent level of language proficiency that meets international standards.

In the TOEFL ITP test for middle school students, 100% of test-takers achieved a B1 level or higher in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, sentence structure, and expression according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

In the TOEFL Junior test for elementary school students, 100% of test-takers achieved an A2 level or higher in listening comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary; 97% of test-takers achieved an A2 level or higher in reading comprehension, as measured by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Notably, among the four national first-place winners, two were elementary school students who scored 900/900 on the TOEFL Junior Challenge test.

These are the contestants: Pham Tung Lam (a student in class 3GE at Newton 5 Primary and Secondary School, Hanoi) won first prize in the 2-3 grade category (900/900 points); Le Manh Tien (a student in class 5A8 at Lomonosov Primary School, Hanoi) won first prize in the 4-5 grade category (900/900 points).

In addition, contestant Nguyen Ha Bao Trang (Vinschool Time City Secondary & High School) won first prize in the 6th-7th grade category (673/677 points); Dang Hoang Tue Anh (9A5 class, Nam Trung Yen Secondary School) won first prize in the 8th-9th grade category (667/677 points).

At the provincial and city-level competitions, statistics from the organizing committee recorded outstanding achievements by contestants at both the primary and secondary school levels.

Specifically, among primary school students, 89% achieved level A1 or higher in listening comprehension, and 95% achieved level A1 or higher in reading comprehension according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR).

For lower secondary school level, 95% of participating candidates achieved A2 level or higher in listening comprehension, 98% achieved A2 level or higher in grammar and vocabulary, and 92% achieved A2 level or higher in reading comprehension according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
