South Korea has a new female prime minister.

After her confirmation, Ms. Han will assume the office of the country's 50th prime minister and the second prime minister under President Lee Jae Myung, just 23 days after her nomination on June 7th.

She will also become the second woman to hold the position of prime minister, 20 years after Han Myeong-sook became the country's first female prime minister in 2006.

She rose from an ordinary office worker to become the CEO of the giant online portal corporation Naver.

Ms. Han Seong-sook was the first Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) under President Lee.

When announcing the nomination, the Cheong Wa Dae Presidential Office described Han as "the right person to lead the country through a crucial strategic transition period amidst complex global reforms and crises."
