On the evening of March 28, regarding the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand on March 28, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) received a report from the Flight Coordination Information Center under the Air Traffic Management Center (Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation) regarding the impact of the earthquake in Thailand on Vietnam's civil aviation activities.

Specifically, at 14:09, the Flight Coordination Information Center reported receiving information from the Ho Chi Minh Area Control Center (ACC HCM) regarding the impact of the earthquake in Thailand on civil aviation activities. Accordingly, all flights to the two airports Suvarnabhumi (VTBS) and Don Mueang (VTBD) are temporarily suspended until further notice from the Thai authorities. These are the two airports where airlines from Vietnam are operating regular flights.

Immediately after receiving the report from the Flight Coordination Information Center, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam directed the Air Traffic Management Center to deploy information to Vietnamese airlines, the National Flight Operations Center under the Air Defense - Air Force and collect information to evaluate and deploy air traffic flow management measures (ATFM), especially CTOT, as well as report the number of affected flights to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

In addition, the Vietnam Air Traffic Flow Control Center received information from the Bangkok Air Traffic Flow Management Center and deployed ATFM measures to ensure effective coordination of flight operations in the area.

For flights arriving at VTBS airport, apply CTOT (Calculated Take-Off Time) measure for aircraft departing to this airport and require airlines and ATFM units to strictly comply with the issued CTOT.

For flights arriving at VTBD airport, a minimum departure interval (MDI) of 5 minutes/flight applies to flights departing from the same airport.

In the absence of CTOT, continue to apply 5-minute MDI/flight to control air traffic flow.

Vietnam's Air Traffic Control Center has urgently deployed the CTOT time provided by Thailand to airlines departing from Vietnam, and at the same time notified Vietnam's Airport Traffic Control Stations (TWR) with flights to Bangkok, ensuring that airlines comply with regulations.

The affected flights include: Vietnam Airlines flight VN610 (Hanoi - Bangkok) had to return to refuel and wait for assessment from airport authorities, then took off at 14:55 local time; Thai AirAsia flight AIQ637 (Da Nang - Bangkok) was delayed compared to the plan, then departed at 14:59 local time.

Unaffected flights include: VN615 (Hanoi - Bangkok) of Vietnam Airlines, BAV323 (Tan Son Nhat - Bangkok) of Bamboo Airways, VAG131 (Tan Son Nhat - Bangkok) of Vietravel Airlines.

According to the latest announcement from the Bangkok Air Traffic Control Center, flight operations in Thailand have been restored at the following times: Suvarnabhumi Airport at 15:00 and Don Mueang Airport at 15:02.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has directed the Air Traffic Management Center to continue to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure safety and efficiency for flight operations in the area.
