In the first set, key attackers Pham Thi My Hang and Dam Thi Thanh Huyen alternated in accurate shots, giving us an early lead of 20-18. However, with the enthusiastic support of the home crowd, the Chinese girls narrowly leveled the score at 21-20 in the second set. The two teams battled for every point in a tense atmosphere. In the penalty shootout, the Vietnamese women's handball team won 9-6 thanks to their confident shots.
As shared by the coaching staff, this is a well-deserved achievement for the athletes' hard training and determination. The entire team considers this a very meaningful gift to their fans at home on the occasion of a major national holiday. Over the past period, the attention and support from the Vietnam Handball Federation (VHF) has also provided great motivation for the team to continue striving for even greater goals.
The Vietnamese women's beach handball team displayed impressive form throughout their journey to the championship title. They overcame opponents (such as Thailand, Hong Kong (China), the Philippines, and Turkmenistan) with the same 2-0 scoreline to advance to the final. The gold medal won at the 2016 Asian Beach Games marks the second time in 10 years that the Vietnamese women's beach handball team has defeated China in a continental final, following the 2016 Games held in Da Nang.
Thanks to their outstanding performance recently, the International Handball Federation (IHF) has officially granted the Vietnamese women's team a spot at the 2026 Beach Handball World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, in June. According to the draw results, we are in Group A alongside strong opponents Germany, the Netherlands, and Uruguay.
Germany are the reigning world champions for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2024. The Netherlands finished third in this competition. Uruguay is a South American team that has participated in the world championship six times, with their best result being 6th place in 2012. The Vietnamese women's beach handball team has participated three times, with their highest ranking being 9th place.
Being drawn into this extremely difficult group will be a true test for the Vietnamese girls in their journey to gain experience and prove their abilities. However, their performance in China will also be a strong affirmation of the results of sound investment and the maturity of the next generation of Vietnamese handball athletes.
