Sing with all your heart at the top of the waves

The delegation of the Thai Nguyen Province Cultural and Art Center has just returned from a performance trip to serve the soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district, DK1 platform. At the “head of the waves and the wind”, the members of the delegation sang with all their hearts, responsibility and love for their homeland’s sea and islands.

"There is nothing more sacred than the love people have for each other on the waves. The 16 officers, artists and actors in our troupe sang with all their hearts, with the thought of compensating the officers, soldiers and people on the remote islands to ease their longing for the mainland" - Meritorious Artist Do Minh Chuyen, Deputy Director of the Center, shared with us as soon as he returned to Thai Nguyen.

I know, it was a special business trip for the artists and actors of Thai Nguyen tea land. To prepare for the long trip from May 18 to June 2, as soon as they received the order to go to Truong Sa island district to perform, they practiced together, made their own plans, and came up with performance plans in many different situations so that each program, when the stage lights were on, would not stumble.

Along with their songs, the group also brought a special gift that carries the soul of Thai Nguyen - tea. They conveyed the deep affection of more than 1.3 million people in the windy capital of Thai Nguyen to the soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district.

Yes! It was the calm sea season, only the gentle waves lapping against the ship's side made many actors and artists from the tea land intoxicated. Of course, the children of the windy capital, accustomed to the wild mountains and forests, now boarding the ship to the sea, seeing the vast salty sea with no known shore, were nervous and worried because of the responsibility placed on their shoulders: Would they still have enough strength to sing the soulful songs and dance the graceful tea land dances.

Ngoc Anh, a singer, confided: I was so drunk, but when I stepped onto the island, I couldn't remember... I was just "sobbing" from "drinking the waves". There was something strange and extremely lovely about the island, which was the closeness and affection between the island soldiers and the artists and actors. As for Ngoc Huynh, a technical officer, he was restless and anxious: The sea is so big, I'm worried that the sound and lighting equipment will have to travel hundreds of nautical miles, and when they get to the island, will they still be able to operate?

What Ngoc Huynh worried about did not happen. The soldiers shared and carried the bulky belongings each time they arrived at the island. And on Truong Sa Lon Island as well as the island locations: Da Thi, Sinh Ton, Co Lin, Len Dao, Da Tay A, DK1 Platform, the crew always had the stage lights on and the music was bustling, blending with the sound of the waves hitting the shore. Huong Lan, a Cheo actress, said innocently: On the ship, I was feeling seasick, but when the stage lights were on and the music started, I, like my colleagues, "burned" ourselves out for art.

The songs: “Vietnam is the most beautiful in your name”, “The Fatherland calls my name”, “Gan lam Truong Sa”, “Thai Nguyen, my love, your love” and “Huyen thuy Ho Nui Coc”… were sung in the middle of the sacred and strange ocean. When the lyrics were sung, everything fell silent in emotion, only the sound of the waves of the ocean murmured forever like a mother’s lullaby for a thousand years, gently lulling her child to sleep. Thuy Ngan, the dancer, was very surprised when she witnessed the young soldiers laughing heartily while tears flowed down while listening to the song. She was also choked up, her clear tears making her words no longer complete.

Having performed on large national, provincial and local stages, the stage on the islands is special, right next to the easternmost border marker of the Fatherland, under the shade of the banyan tree, in the island hall, next to the coral reef with layers of waves. Wherever the artists and actors are, they bring a special emotion, "burning" themselves out amidst the emotional applause of the soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district.

A meaningful, responsible and nostalgic trip. When boarding the ship to return to the mainland, the handshakes of the island's soldiers and people with the artists and actors were so tight that they did not want to leave. And from the tea land of Thai Nguyen, there were songs sung by a member of the group over the phone, sent to Truong Sa with the promise of meeting again.
