To answer the question "where to enroll my child in swimming lessons?", a reporter from Thanh Nien newspaper observed that swimming classes for children are bustling from morning to night, especially in the afternoon.

Where can I enroll my child in swimming lessons?

At the Tay Thanh Ward Public Service Center (87 Che Lan Vien Street, Tay Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), many parents bring their children to learn to swim on weekends. The children are equipped with life vests, and there are always instructors and lifeguards supervising them in the pool.

According to Mr. Le Duy Tan, Head of the Swimming Department at the center, the tuition fee for a course of 15 lessons is 1.8 million VND, with each lesson lasting 60 minutes. The center organizes classes from Monday to Sunday, from 6 AM to 10 AM and from 3 PM to 7 PM.

“During the summer, there is a high demand from parents sending their children to swimming lessons. For those who don't know how to swim, we mainly teach the breaststroke. Currently, the center has about 11 swimming instructors. We accept students from 3 years old and up; however, due to the large number of students in the summer, each instructor has to teach 5-10 children per lesson,” Mr. Tan said.

According to observations, the swimming pool area here has three separate pools suitable for different age groups. The space is spacious and airy, with seating provided for parents waiting for their children. Lifeguards are always on duty to assist when needed.

In Phuoc Long Ward (Ho Chi Minh City), swimming classes at Vinh Para Swimming Center are also bustling. According to Mr. Quach Thanh Vinh (32 years old), the owner of the center, even though students haven't officially started their summer break yet, many parents have already registered and reserved spots for their children.

“Our center accepts students from 5 years old and up. The tuition fee is 2 million VND for children under 8 years old, and 1.8 million VND for those over 8 years old. A course consists of 12 sessions, and we guarantee to teach until the child knows how to swim,” said Vinh.

According to Vinh, if students still don't know how to swim after 12 lessons, the center will continue to provide instruction; students only need to pay the entrance fee to the pool at 25,000 VND per hour.

Here, on average, one teacher mentors a maximum of 5 students. In addition to group classes, the center also offers one-on-one tutoring services at a cost of approximately 3.5 million VND per course. Most of the teachers are professional swimmers.

"Every parent is concerned about ensuring their child's safety and whether they will know how to swim after completing the course. Therefore, the center offers a free trial lesson for the first child," Vinh added.

According to reports, the swimming pool at the center is approximately 1.2 meters deep and operates from 7 AM to 9 PM daily. In addition to the facility in Phuoc Long Ward, the center also has a branch at Thanh Loc Garden Swimming Pool (Thanh Loc Ward).

Le Thi Thien Kim (27 years old), a swimming instructor here and a member of the Tay Ninh (formerly Long An) provincial swimming team, said that in the summer she has to stay in the water almost all day because of the large number of students.

"I think the most important thing when teaching children is to be fun and enthusiastic so they feel safe in the water. Initially, many children are very afraid of water, but after a few sessions, they start to enjoy swimming," Kim shared.

According to Kim, children who aren't afraid of water can learn basic swimming in about 4-5 sessions. Meanwhile, children who are afraid of water usually need about 9-10 sessions to get used to it and practice. "I think swimming is an essential life skill for self-protection. Basically, I will teach them breaststroke and freestyle," she said.

At Saigon Sport Kids Swimming Center, Tran Hieu (31 years old), a swimming instructor, said that during the summer, the center offers continuous classes from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. “The tuition fee for a course is about 2 million VND, consisting of 12-14 sessions. Each session lasts from 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, and we guarantee that students will know how to swim after completing the course,” Mr. Hieu said.

According to Mr. Hieu, in addition to classes at the center's swimming pool, instructors can also travel to apartments or locations near students' residences if they register for private lessons. He said that currently, summer swimming classes are being held at the Long Phuoc branch (Haan & Golf Swimming Pool) and the Tan Binh Cultural and Sports Center Swimming Pool (formerly in Binh Duong province).

According to Mr. Hieu, when participating in the course, the children are provided with support equipment and swimming floats. The center also gives swimming caps or goggles to students who register for the course, and offers the first lesson free for students who register in groups.
