Coach Shin Tae Yong's contract with the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) will expire in June 6. Recently, PSSI President Erick Thohir confirmed that he is not in a hurry to renew the contract with the Korean coach. Instead, the Indonesian side wants to wait for the performance of the Indonesian U2024 team in the U23 Asian Championship before deciding whether to extend the contract with coach Shin Tae Yong or not.
However, coach Shin Tae Yong suddenly revealed that he had accepted an offer to lead another team after his contract with the Indonesian team expired.
Sharing with Sports Kyunghyang, the Korean coach said: "I received the offer a week ago. I will not accept an offer to lead another Southeast Asian team again.
I still have many contract extension discussions with PSSI. Of course, if I leave early, I will have to pay compensation. Currently, I still keep my promise to work for the Indonesian team until my contract expires in June 6.
Despite the Indonesian team losing 0-4 to Australia in the 1/8 round of the 2023 Asian Cup, coach Shin Tae Yong still received great support from the media and fans in the land of Van Dao. On social networks, Indonesian fans called on PSSI to soon renew the contract with the Korean strategist.
Similarly, the Indonesian press also affirmed that PSSI "needs to act soon" to negotiate a contract extension with coach Shin Tae Yong. They were disappointed when PSSI President, Erick Thohir, remained calm after the home team's success in the 2023 Asian Cup.
Coach Shin Tae Yong started working for the Indonesian team in 2019. Although he could not help this team win the title, he gradually improved the quality of Garuda (the nickname of the Indonesian team). They have passed the group stage for the first time in the history of participating in the Asian Cup.
