The position of head coach of the Indonesian national team is currently vacant after the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) and Patrick Kluivert officially parted ways in October 2025, not long after the team's defeat in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Amidst PSSI's ongoing search for a successor, Shin Tae-yong's name has unexpectedly been mentioned frequently in Indonesian public opinion.
Many fans are hoping the South Korean coach will return to lead the Southeast Asian national team, given the significant achievements he made during his previous coaching stints.
However, Shin Tae-yong recently asserted that he has not received any contact from PSSI to date. "I have had absolutely no contact with PSSI," Shin Tae-yong told Bola when he appeared at Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Tangerang, Indonesia) on the evening of December 14th.

Although he no longer works in Indonesia, Shin Tae-yong frequently returns to the country and admits he always feels at home. According to the former Indonesian national team coach, he greatly appreciates the fans' affection and their continued recognition of his past contributions to the team.
Shin Tae-yong is currently unemployed after being dismissed by PSSI in January 2025. He returned to South Korea to coach Ulsan HD but only stayed for less than two months before being fired on October 9th, amidst reports of internal instability within the team.
Previously, the reason for parting ways with the Indonesian national team was that the PSSI hierarchy wanted the team to be led by a Dutch coach to facilitate communication with the naturalized players.
However, Patrick Kluivert's replacement failed to make much of an impact and he was soon forced to leave after a defeat in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
