Coach Shin Tae-yong returns to Seongnam Club as a non-permanent Director. |
The coach born in 1970 has just been appointed as the non-permanent Director of Seongnam Club, a team competing in the K.League 2.
Speaking on the day of his return, Coach Shin was moved: "Seongnam is the team I always carry in my heart. When looking back at history, I think the club's current position is not worthy. I will use all my experience and passion to help the team get promoted and regain a worthy image on the map of Korean and continental football."
Mr. Shin will not directly manage the team, but will act as a strategic advisor, supporting head coach Jeon Kyung-jun in managing the squad as well as the overall development direction of the club. The contract between the two parties is valid until the end of 2025.
Seongnam FC can be considered the football home of Coach Shin. From 1992 to 2004, he devoted his entire playing career to the club. Then, as head coach from 2008 to 2012, this coach helped Seongnam reach the pinnacle of the continent with the AFC Champions League championship in 2010, and the Korean FA Cup in 2011.
In parallel with his work at Seongnam, Mr. Shin was also appointed as Vice President of the Korea Football Association (KFA), along with his close companion Park Hang-seo. While Mr. Park supports the Korean national teams professionally, the former Indonesian captain will focus on developing the KFA's international relations and cooperation.
