Coach Shin Tae-yong returns to Seongnam FC as a non-permanent director. |
The coach, born in 1970, has just been appointed as the non-permanent director of Seongnam FC, a team currently competing in the K.League 2.
Speaking on his return, Coach Shin was emotional: "Seongnam is a team I've always held dear in my heart. Looking back at its history, I think the club's current position is not up to par. I will use all my experience and dedication to help the team get promoted and regain its rightful place on the map of Korean and continental football."
Mr. Shin will not directly manage the team, but will act as a strategic advisor, assisting head coach Jeon Kyung-jun in team management and overall development direction for the club. The contract between the two parties is valid until the end of 2025.
Seongnam FC can be considered the football home of coach Shin. From 1992 to 2004, he dedicated his entire playing career to the club. Later, as head coach from 2008 to 2012, he led Seongnam to continental success, winning the AFC Champions League in 2010 and the Korean FA Cup in 2011.
Alongside his work at Seongnam, Shin was also appointed Vice President of the Korea Football Association (KFA), alongside his close friend Park Hang-seo. While Park provides professional support to the South Korean national teams, the former Indonesian coach will focus on developing the KFA's international relationships and collaborations.
