"Professionally, I cannot stop Mr. Shin Tae-yong if he intends to resign. I am a professional, so I follow those principles," PSSI President Erick Thohir said in an interview with Bolatimes on January 30, following rumors that coach Shin Tae-yong had accepted an offer from another team nearly a week ago.

Bolatimes revealed: "It is possible that coach Shin Tae-yong has accepted to lead the Chinese team. The team has just failed completely at the 2023 Asian Cup and is planning to change to a new coach. Previously, coach Shin Tae-yong confided that he intended to accept to lead the Chinese team, but then refused and moved to Indonesia.
In addition, there are two other teams that may be negotiating to invite coach Shin Tae-yong, the Korean team because their fans do not like coach Jurgen Klinsmann, and the UAE team wants to replace coach Paulo Bento because they just lost to Tajikistan.
On Sports Kyunghyang (Korea) on January 30, coach Shin Tae-yong said: "I accepted the offer about a week ago. I will not lead a team in Southeast Asia anymore. There are still discussions about extending the contract (with PSSI). Of course, if I leave early, I will have to pay compensation. But for now, I still keep my promise about the possibility of extending the contract with PSSI until June."
Coach Shin Tae-yong may leave the Indonesian team
Next June, the contract of coach Shin Tae-yong leading the Indonesian national team and the U.23 team will end.
Recently, the Indonesian press revealed that PSSI President Erick Thohir has set additional conditions to extend the contract with coach Shin Tae-yong until 2027. That is, this coach must continue to bring the Indonesian U.23 team to the quarterfinals of the U.23 Asian Cup from mid-April, then the two sides will continue to negotiate. Coach Shin Tae-yong has only met one condition, which is to bring the Indonesian team to the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup, so the challenge is still ahead.
