"Professionally, I cannot stop Shin Tae-yong if he intends to resign. I am a professional, so I adhere to those principles," PSSI President Erick Thohir said in an interview with Bolatimes on January 30, following rumors that coach Shin Tae-yong had accepted an offer from another team nearly a week ago.

According to Bolatimes , "It is possible that coach Shin Tae-yong has accepted the offer to lead the Chinese national team. The team just suffered a complete defeat at the 2023 Asian Cup and is planning to change coaches. Previously, coach Shin Tae-yong revealed that he had intended to accept the offer to lead the Chinese national team, but later declined and moved to Indonesia."
In addition, there are two other teams that may also be in talks to invite coach Shin Tae-yong: the South Korean team, due to their fans' dislike of coach Jurgen Klinsmann, and the UAE team, which wants to replace coach Paulo Bento after their recent loss to Tajikistan.
In an interview with Sports Kyunghyang (South Korea) on January 30th, coach Shin Tae-yong stated: "I accepted the offer about a week ago. I will no longer be coaching a team in Southeast Asia. Discussions regarding a contract extension (with PSSI) are still ongoing. Of course, if I leave early, I will have to pay compensation. But for now, I am keeping my promise to extend my contract with PSSI until June."
Coach Shin Tae-yong may part ways with the Indonesian national team.
This coming June, the contract of coach Shin Tae-yong leading the Indonesian national team and the U.23 team will also expire.
Recently, Indonesian media revealed that PSSI President Erick Thohir has added another condition to extend coach Shin Tae-yong's contract until 2027. That condition is that the coach must continue to lead the Indonesian U23 team to the quarterfinals of the U23 Asian Championship, which starts in mid-April, before further negotiations can begin. Coach Shin Tae-yong has only met one condition so far – leading the Indonesian national team to the round of 16 at the 2023 Asian Cup – so the challenge remains.
