The upgrade reflects Vietnam's level of integration, openness in its immigration policies and foreign relations, and also brings many new advantages to Vietnamese tourists in the increasing trend of international travel.
Vietnamese citizens can now enter 50 destinations without a visa in advance, or simply by applying for an e-visa, visa on arrival, or ETA (electronic travel authorization) upon departure. This group of destinations includes most ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and many attractive island nations like the Maldives, Cook Islands, and Cape Verde.

Vietnamese passport ranking improved by 2 points.
Although its current ranking is still lower than the 87th position in 2024, the continuous upward trend shows that the Vietnamese passport is improving its global travel flexibility, facilitating travel for international tourists, businesspeople, and students.
Besides the direct benefits for Vietnamese passport holders, the improved ranking also has the potential to boost the tourism industry in general. Access to more attractive destinations encourages increased demand for international travel, thereby contributing to the development of logistics, travel services, and more in-depth tourism experiences.
In the 2025 ranking of the most powerful passports, Singapore continues to hold the top spot with visa-free entry to 193 countries and territories, followed by South Korea and Japan. Malaysia's inclusion in the top 10 also reflects the growing trend of freedom of movement within the Asia- Pacific region.
