Make good use of local advantages.
For many years, the organic chicken farm of Ms. Tran Thi Anh's family in Lien Son village, Tuyen Binh commune, has been one of the exemplary production models in the locality. With thousands of chickens in each coop, and organically raised products being highly favored by the market, Ms. Anh's farm consistently sells its chickens and provides a stable income year-round.
Previously, Ms. Anh only engaged in small-scale livestock farming, but thanks to her diligence in learning, applying good care and breeding practices, and having access to preferential loans, she has gradually expanded her production scale to its current level. Ms. Tran Thi Anh shared that living in an area with hilly terrain means she has a large garden area, making it easy to build barns and fences...
In addition, the native chicken breed has long been known for its delicious taste, long rearing time, and small weight, but with proper care and breeding, it can yield significant results. Especially since the main feed source is locally grown agricultural products such as corn, rice, and beans, thus minimizing breeding costs.

Like Ms. Anh, based on leveraging the potential and advantages of the locality, Mr. Cao Xuan Chinh, from Bac Hoa village, has invested in and developed a model for producing sim wine.
Locally, the craft of making rượu sim (a type of Vietnamese rice wine) has a long history, and the hilly area is also home to many sim trees. Every season, Mr. Chính buys sim fruit from local people who harvest it, applies the approved fermentation and aging process, then bottles and sells it to the market. After many years of effort, Mr. Chính's sim wine has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. Currently, the majority of his production serves local people and the surrounding area. Mr. Chính is also expanding sim cultivation on his fields to ensure a steady supply of raw materials. Mr. Cao Xuân Chính shared: "The raw materials are almost readily available locally; I just need to buy more machinery and apply production processes to ensure quality according to regulations."
According to Mr. Hoang Vinh Loi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuyen Binh commune, promoting training courses, transferring scientific and technical knowledge, and creating conditions for people to access preferential loan sources to develop the economy are practical solutions that the commune is effectively implementing, especially in leveraging the existing potential and advantages of the locality to create high-value products, aiming for sustainable development and increasing income for the people.
Diverse livelihood models
Over the years, the central task in sustainable poverty reduction has been prioritizing resources for economic development, diversifying livelihood models, creating jobs, and increasing stable income for the people. Through vocational training courses, the application of science and technology, and the transformation of livestock and crop structures, Tuyen Binh commune has proactively supported people's livelihoods in a multi-sectoral and multi-occupational direction.

Nearly a decade ago, few would have thought that a semi-mountainous area like Lien Son village, Tuyen Binh commune, would be suitable for flower cultivation. However, after participating in a training course and technology transfer organized by the commune's People's Committee, Ms. Tran Thi Huong boldly converted her entire family's vegetable crop land to flower cultivation. To date, her more than two acres of flower fields provide her with a stable income each year.
When we visited, Ms. Huong was meticulously tending to her chrysanthemum garden, which was in full bloom, in preparation for the Lunar New Year. Thanks to the initial preferential loan, Ms. Huong had already repaid her debt.
After nearly 10 years of growing flowers, the family has escaped poverty and risen to become a well-off household in the locality. “The income from flower cultivation is significantly higher than that from growing rice or other crops. In the future, the family will switch to growing potted flowers to meet market demand and experiment with growing more high-value flowers,” Ms. Huong shared.
By 2025, thanks to the synchronized implementation of poverty reduction solutions, the poverty rate in Tuyen Binh commune will decrease to 1.7% (target: 2.5%); the near-poverty rate will decrease to 2.47%.
Not only Ms. Huong's family, but many households in Tuyen Binh commune have truly found an effective path to sustainable poverty alleviation thanks to boldly changing the structure of livestock and crops, and applying science and technology to production development. It can be seen that diversifying livelihoods is a solution that Tuyen Binh commune has been implementing effectively.
"Following the administrative unit merger, with greater potential, the People's Committee of Tuyen Binh commune continues to lead and direct the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals. In particular, sustainable poverty reduction remains a top priority, and the commune has set a goal of eliminating poverty by 2030," said Hoang Vinh Loi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuyen Binh commune.
