Can Tho Expressway Loading Completed

In order to ensure the completion of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project by the end of 2025, contractors are focusing on completing the load-bearing capacity of the main route in 2024.

The North-South Expressway Eastern section, phase 2021-2025, specifically the Can Tho - Ca Mau section (Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway), is entering its acceleration phase, with the goal of completing load testing by the end of 2024.

This is a crucial prerequisite for completing the project by the end of 2025, as directed by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport .

The entire surface of the project's bridges will be completed in 2024.

The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway is divided into two component projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau.

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board (the investor), the Can Tho - Hau Giang section has reached 52% of its construction progress. To date, contractors have filled 4.3 million cubic meters of sand. Of this, 31% of the main route has been completed. 12 out of 40 bridges have had their entire bridge decks completed.

For the Hau Giang - Ca Mau component project, contractors have filled in 6.34 million cubic meters of sand. Of this, phase 1 loading is 48% complete. 25 out of 86 bridges along the route have had their entire bridge decks completed.

The My Thuan Project Management Board assessed that some construction items of both component projects have not met the progress committed by the contractors.

Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, said that in recent days, the Board's leaders have inspected the site and urged contractors to speed up the project's construction progress.

In order to expedite the entire project, the Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board requested contractors to increase personnel and equipment, and organize construction in three shifts to speed up the construction progress.

At the same time, it must be ensured that all bridges are completed by 2024.

"Specifically, we require contractors to proactively secure sources of sand for embankment and crushed stone aggregate to complete the load-bearing work in 2024. This is a condition for completing the project in 2025," Mr. Thi emphasized.

The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway is over 110km long, with a total investment of over 27,500 billion VND. Construction began in January 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2025.

This section of the expressway consists of two component projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang section, which is over 37km long, with a total investment of over 10,370 billion VND.

The Hau Giang - Ca Mau section of the project is over 73km long. The total investment is over 17,152 billion VND.
