Attending the ceremony were the directors of the Vietnam Agency for Searching for Missing Persons, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security , the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Marc Knapper, and leaders of the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
At the ceremony, the Vietnamese agency searching for missing persons handed over four caskets containing remains to the US side.
This is the result of joint offshore excavation operations during the 155th joint search, which took place from May to July 2024 in Khanh Hoa province.
The program was carried out under the active supervision and support of VNOSMP and the functional forces of Khanh Hoa province.
The remains were examined by Vietnamese and American forensic experts in Da Nang , who concluded that they may be related to American servicemen missing in action during the Vietnam War.
Cooperation in searching for and returning the remains of American servicemen missing in action during the Vietnam War began immediately after the Paris Agreement was signed on January 27, 1973.
After more than 50 years, Vietnam has handed over more than 1,000 sets of remains to the United States, helping the US identify more than 730 missing soldiers. This humanitarian activity contributes to healing the wounds of war and building trust.

There have been numerous instances of repatriating remains at Da Nang airport.
Earlier on June 26th, a repatriation ceremony for the remains of American soldiers missing in action (MIA) in the Vietnam War also took place at Da Nang International Airport. This was the initial result of the 155th joint operation to search for the remains of American soldiers in several central provinces.
Vietnamese and American diplomats have both affirmed that strengthening cooperation in this area is the best way to heal the wounds of war, contribute to building trust, and expand cooperation in many other fields.
