The Farmers' Association talks about 'tech farmers'.

TPO - The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Association is expected to reduce the number of delegates by about 400 compared to the previous term, and for the first time will feature a significant proportion of delegates from the "new generation of farmers," those who practice agriculture with a market-oriented mindset, apply technology, build brands, and link value chains.

On May 28th, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association held a press conference to provide information about the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, term 2026-2031, and a seminar entitled "The Vietnamese Peasant Class - 40 Years of Renovation: From Aspirations in the Fields to an Era of Striving".

According to the plan, the 9th Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Association will take place from June 7-8 at the National Convention Center ( Hanoi ), with the participation of 600 official delegates representing more than 10 million farmer members nationwide, a decrease of about 400 delegates compared to the previous 8th Congress.

At the press conference, Ms. Bui Thi Thom, Vice President of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, stated that the delegate structure of this Congress has many new features, ensuring representation not only by region, ethnicity, and religion, but also by more clearly reflecting the image of the "new generation of farmers" in the current period.

Notably, delegates who are "new farmers" account for approximately 13%, including young farmers, successful farmers and business owners, owners of economic models, cooperatives, cooperative groups, members of professional farmers' associations, OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities, and those who boldly apply science and technology and link production in agriculture.

According to the leaders of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, this is a generation of farmers who are showing a clear change in their thinking and production methods.

"The image of farmers today is undergoing a clear transformation: they are more dynamic, more professional, have a market-oriented mindset, know how to apply technology, and cooperate for sustainable development," Ms. Thơm emphasized.

According to the organizers, this is also the spirit of innovation that the 9th Congress wants to spread in order to promote the leading role of farmers in building an ecological agriculture, a modern rural area, and civilized farmers.

The 9th Congress took place against the backdrop of agriculture, farmers, and rural areas facing the need for stronger transformation in production models, digital transformation, value chain linkages, and adaptation to climate change. In the Political Report presented to the Congress, the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association identified four breakthrough tasks for the 2026-2031 term.

According to the orientation for the next term, the Vietnam Farmers' Association will focus on areas such as digital transformation, food safety standards, building a "green - clean - traceable" agricultural system, developing brands and "passports" for agricultural products; aiming towards a model of "green rural livelihoods - digital agriculture - value chain".
