Son Tay Jackfruit Competition 2023

On the evening of June 24th, the People's Committee of Son Tay town organized the Son Tay Jackfruit Competition 2023. Seventeen teams participated, representing nine communes and wards, and two military units stationed in the town.

According to Nguyen Viet Dat, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Tay town: Currently, the area planted with native jackfruit in the town is about 100 hectares, concentrated in some communes with many hills such as Son Dong, Co Dong, Kim Son, Xuan Son, Thanh My... Son Tay jackfruit is delicious, sweet, and of good quality. It is a fruit rich in vitamin C and nutrients, and has anti-aging effects...

A large number of officials and citizens attended and cheered on the competition.

In 2022, the People's Committee of Son Tay town successfully organized the Son Tay Jackfruit Contest. Since then, Son Tay jackfruit has become widely known and has been ordered in large quantities. In communes and wards with delicious jackfruit trees, many customers even order entire trees to harvest gradually.

The jackfruit submitted for the competition must be the traditional, firm variety, also known as "Vietnamese jackfruit," naturally ripened without the use of ripening agents, ensuring safety for consumers. The fruit should have evenly spaced thorns, a beautiful color, a fragrant aroma, and should not be misshapen, infested with insects, or cracked. The jackfruit must have a clear address and origin, and must be sourced from jackfruit trees grown within the commune or ward where the competition is taking place.

The competition included sections on the external appearance of the jackfruit, decorating the jackfruit beautifully, and giving a presentation.

For the jackfruit quality competition, the judges tasted and evaluated the criteria based on flesh thickness, crispness, sweetness, color, and aroma, and scored the jackfruit according to the scoring sheet provided by the organizers.

The competing teams brought impressive displays of jackfruit to the competition: the shape of Vietnam, jackfruit flowers, jackfruit jelly, a feast made from jackfruit segments and seeds, jackfruit cake, jackfruit patties, etc.

At the end of the competition, the organizing committee awarded 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 11 consolation prizes to the winning teams. The total value of the prizes was 32.5 million VND.
