Over 700 hectares of summer-autumn rice crops were attacked by rats.

(HG) - According to recent field inspections by the provincial agricultural sector, rats are currently one of the pests causing the most damage to the province's summer-autumn rice crop. Specifically, the entire province is recording over 700 hectares of summer-autumn rice, from the seedling and tillering stages to the heading and flowering stages, being attacked by rats, with damage rates ranging from 3-10% on the same cultivated area, distributed across almost all localities with summer-autumn rice in the province.

The provincial agricultural department advises people to intensify rat extermination by digging up burrows or using various types of traps.

According to many farmers whose summer-autumn rice crops are being damaged by rats, one of the reasons for the high rate of rat infestation is the recent period of intense heat and prolonged drought, especially the low water levels in the irrigation canals, making it difficult for farmers to pump water to the fields. The constant dryness of the fields creates favorable conditions for rats to seek shelter and damage the rice plants.

To limit rat infestations on summer-autumn rice crops, the provincial agricultural sector recommends that farmers organize rat control using various methods such as digging burrows, fumigation, traps, and biological control. It is especially important to note that farmers should not use electric shocks to kill rats in the fields as this is extremely dangerous to human life. During the rat control process, farmers must carry out the action simultaneously over a wide area and in a concentrated manner to achieve the highest effectiveness.
