More than 700 hectares of summer-autumn rice were attacked by rats

(HG) - According to the results of a recent field survey by the provincial agricultural sector, rats are currently one of the pests causing the most damage to the province's Summer-Autumn rice crop. Specifically, the whole province has recorded more than 700 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice from the seedling, tillering to flowering stages being attacked by rats, with a damage rate of 3-10% on the same cultivated area and distributed in most localities with Summer-Autumn rice in the province.

The provincial agricultural sector recommends that people step up rat extermination by digging holes or using traps.

According to many farmers whose Summer-Autumn rice is being damaged by rats, one of the reasons for the high rate of Summer-Autumn rice being attacked by rats is that recently, the weather has been extremely hot and dry, with prolonged drought, especially the water source from the canals in the fields being low, making it difficult for people to pump water into the fields. Because the fields are often dry, it creates conditions for rats to take shelter in the fields and damage the rice plants.

To limit the attack of rats on summer-autumn rice plants, the provincial agricultural sector recommends that farmers should organize rat extermination by many measures such as: digging holes, fumigating, using traps, biological measures, etc. In particular, farmers should not use electric shock to kill rats in the fields because it is very dangerous to human life. In the process of organizing rat extermination, farmers must carry out the extermination simultaneously on a large scale and in a concentrated manner to bring about the highest efficiency.
