Hong Nhung said that ever since she was little, she always stood in front of the mirror and wondered, "Why am I so ugly?", while her mother was beautiful.
The singer shared her views on beauty and age during a Q&A session with the audience at her concert on the evening of March 8th in Hanoi . When asked by the MC, "Do you think you are a beautiful woman?", Hong Nhung replied: "From childhood to adulthood, I've never thought that way. When I was little, I used to stand in front of the mirror and wonder why I was so ugly and dark-skinned, with a gaunt face and a short stature, nothing like my mother at all. My mother was a beauty, with fair skin and long black hair that reached her ankles. When I was little, I always carried a picture of my mother in my notebook and showed it to my friends."

The singer recounted that before they became famous, Hong Nhung and Thanh Lam were performing by the sea and spread out a mat to sunbathe during a break. A passerby saw them and teased, "You're as dark as a water lily bulb, and you're still sunbathing?"
When the MC asked why she didn't think she was beautiful but still participated in the "Beautiful Sisters Riding the Waves" competition, she humorously replied: "When I was invited, I thought the organizers must be colorblind to invite me to be a beauty queen. I'm not beautiful, but I'm much more than that when it comes to riding the waves. Compared to the other contestants, I'm 20 years older than many of them and about 20 cm shorter."

Throughout the show, Hong Nhung repeatedly entertained the audience with humorous short stories, connecting them to the songs she sang. When introducing the song "Còn tuổi nào cho em" (by composer Trinh Cong Son), the diva said: "Nowadays, no polite person asks a woman's age; at most, they might ask for her phone number. Women don't need to publicly reveal their age. As for those who are famous, they just have to accept it, because a quick Google search will reveal it." The singer said that earlier that morning, she was shocked when some staff at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace asked her: "Hong Nhung, have you reached 60 yet?" She replied: "Don't say that, or all the tickets will sell out."

Introducing the song "Em về tinh khôi" (Quốc Bảo), the singer told the audience: "Don't think that only young girls are innocent; women of all ages can be naive and pure."
Hong Nhung said she was proud that at 54, she still maintained the same weight as she did 25 years ago. In the morning, she jogs around Ho Guom Lake and practices yoga so she can wear revealing dresses on stage.
During her duet with Quang Dung, Hong Nhung teased her colleague, praising him for being handsome, stylish, and chivalrous. As her junior colleague was preparing to go on stage to change clothes, she joked, "Today you've brought five sparkling outfits, you've hung them all on the racks, I don't have anywhere to hang mine."
Over three hours, Hong Nhung and Quang Dung showcased their chemistry through numerous duet performances. They performed many songs by Thanh Tung ( You and I, Dewdrop on Eyelids ), Duong Thu ( Awakening Spring ), and Duc Tri ( Because We Need Each Other ). With "Remembering Love ," a song by Trinh Cong Son chosen as the program's theme, they sang with a different mindset than 15 years ago – not melancholic, but gentle and serene.

The performances were all bright and lyrical, refreshed through the arrangements of musician Son Thach. Hong Nhung maintained her image of a carefree and playful "Bong" on stage. In many performances, she stepped up to the musicians, dancing and interacting with them. Singing "What Age Is Left for Me? " in a jazz style, she "grooved" along with the saxophone of artist Quyen Thien Dac. Quang Dung maintained the image of a dapper gentleman in music , with a richly narrative singing style. His calm demeanor, though contrasting with Hong Nhung's unconventional style, helped balance the performance.
Phuong Anh, 36, from Hanoi, said she was happy to hear her two idols sing for the first time. "Hong Nhung's humorous interactions always made the audience laugh out loud, creating a warm and comfortable feeling for the fans."
