Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Hoang Van Thuc - Director of the Department of Pollution Control, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said that the Federal Republic of Germany is considered a long-standing traditional partner and one of the partners coordinating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam to implement the most projects in the fields of climate change, environmental protection, ocean plastic waste management, water resources management and environmental protection; in which, soil environmental protection is one of the priority areas of concern.
In addition, the cooperation activities on soil environmental protection in recent times have had remarkable results, contributing to the success of the 20-year journey of cooperation in the field of natural resources and environment between the two Ministries. The results of the implementation of the above activities have contributed to enhancing the sharing of experiences and mutual understanding on issues of mutual concern; at the same time, improving the capacity of natural resources management and environmental protection in general and the field of soil environmental protection in particular for the management staff of Vietnam.
Sharing at the workshop, Dr. Hoang Van Thuc expressed his wish to listen to the opinions of representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Federal Republic of Germany, representatives of agencies and units under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, the Department of Environmental Pollution Control, experts and scientists to evaluate the results of Vietnam - Germany cooperation activities on soil environmental protection implemented in the past and suggest identifying priorities in the coming time. At the same time, he wished to continue to receive the support and cooperation of units in the Ministry, experts and scientists to make Vietnam - Germany cooperation activities increasingly more effective.
Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Thomas Strassburger - Director, Department of Soil Protection and Remediation and Mining Law, Federal Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Germany said that Germany always supports Vietnam in learning from its experiences and practical lessons. During the cooperation process, the professional staff in the industry in Vietnam has developed significantly, along with the increasingly improved system of legal documents, most clearly reflected in the regulations on soil environmental protection in the Law on Environmental Protection, Decrees, Circulars, etc.
According to Mr. Thomas Strassburger, the cooperation between the two countries has had specific results. In the future, he hopes that Vietnam can have outstanding results compared to other countries in the work of protecting the soil environment, at the same time, he hopes that Germany can support Vietnam in ensuring agricultural land area, thereby ensuring food security.
At the workshop, delegates listened to presentations assessing the cooperation between Vietnam and Germany in the field of soil environmental protection; New successes and challenges from Vietnam's perspective; Legal regulations and innovations in soil environmental protection; Current challenges for soil conservation in Vietnam. Along with that, experts from Germany also shared their experiences in soil management from Germany's perspective with Vietnamese delegates;
Sharing experiences in land management, Dr. Michael Zschiesche - Director of the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues (UfU) said that the causes of land pollution are increasingly complex, therefore, in the future, the two sides need to increase exchanges on pollution control measures such as tax, fee, technical technology tools, etc. In addition, it is necessary to promote coordination in organizing seminars and training courses on topics that the two countries have cooperated on before, as well as new topics.
According to Dr. Michael Zschiesche, to protect the soil environment in Vietnam, it is necessary to invest in research on the relationship between soil and climate; have measures to effectively manage agricultural land areas, ensuring the maintenance of 3.8 million hectares of rice land; focus more on agricultural land management...
He also expressed his desire to learn from Vietnam's practical experiences in implementing legal regulations, because Vietnam is a country in a period of rapid development, the rapid implementation of the system of legal documents and regulations of Vietnam has contributed significantly to the work of protecting the soil environment.
The cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam in soil environmental protection began in 2004 when two ministries: the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Federal Republic of Germany and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam implemented the project "Scientific basis for identifying soil contaminated areas in Vietnam" from 2005-2009.
