The North-South Expressway construction project in the eastern phase of 2021-2025 through Quang Binh province will be implemented from 2022, including 3 component projects: Vung Ang - Bung, Bung - Van Ninh and Van Ninh - Cam Lo, with a total length of 126.43 km, passing through 6/8 districts, towns, cities and 35 communes and wards out of a total of 151 communes, wards and towns; there are 8 intersections in the area.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway project has a total length of 65.54 km, passing through Quang Binh 33.017 km and Quang Tri 32.53 km, invested by the unit, and has achieved important progress. The section through Quang Binh has completed 100% of site clearance, and the packages have been constructed simultaneously.

Mr. Mai Quy Khanh, Deputy Head of Project Management Department 4, Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, said that the two construction packages XL1 and XL2 are being implemented simultaneously with a total of 53 teams, mobilizing nearly 1,500 workers, engineers, and hundreds of pieces of equipment. The output to date has reached more than 85.5% of the contract value. Labor safety, quality, and environmental sanitation are assessed to be guaranteed.

"Along the entire route, 30 bridges have been and are being constructed by the unit. At the same time, many items such as culverts, civil underpasses, road surface foundations, and roadbed excavation are also being accelerated. For Quang Binh province, all 13 bridges, 17 civil underpasses and hundreds of culverts of all kinds are being urgently completed," Mr. Mai Quy Khanh informed.

In addition to speeding up the project progress, the construction of resettlement areas in Quang Binh, including 4 areas, with a total area of ​​nearly 9 hectares serving 95 households, has also been completed, contributing to stabilizing the lives of people affected by the project. Related technical infrastructure has also been relocated at 44/44 locations.

Speed ​​up to the finish line on time

Of the three component projects of the North-South Expressway through Quang Binh province, the Bung-Van Ninh project (over 48 km) was completed and opened to technical traffic early at the end of April 2025, 6 months ahead of schedule.

As for the Vung Ang - Bung project (over 55 km), more than 90% of the construction value has been completed. The route passes through two provinces, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh, of which Quang Binh accounts for more than 42 km. The project has 2 main packages, including 33 bridges, 1 tunnel through Deo But mountain, over 1.5 km long, 406 culverts and 37 underpasses for people.

Currently, 40 construction teams with more than 1,200 workers and 620 pieces of equipment are being mobilized. The bridge, culvert, roadbed, and underpass projects are basically completed. The Deo But tunnel alone has opened both branches, reaching more than 99% of the tunnel excavation volume. Some remaining projects, such as road surfaces, railings, and safety fences, are being accelerated to ensure progress.

As of early May 2025, the project has disbursed all capital for the years 2022-2024, reaching nearly 8,200 billion VND. The Project Management Board has requested the locality to urgently complete site clearance, ensuring the route is opened in mid-2025 as planned.

It is expected that the Van Ninh - Cam Lo and Vung Ang - Bung expressway projects will be completed by the end of June. Once completed, the North - South expressway project through Quang Binh province will create a great driving force to promote inter-regional traffic connectivity, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province in particular, the North Central region and the whole country in general in the new era of development.
