Mobilize manpower and accelerate construction of the expressway project through Quang Binh province.

(Chinhphu.vn) - Three component projects of the North-South expressway project passing through Quang Binh province are being accelerated by construction units, with one project already completed ahead of schedule.

The North-South Expressway construction project (eastern section) in Quang Binh province, phase 2021-2025, commenced in 2022 and comprises three component projects: Vung Ang - Bung, Bung - Van Ninh, and Van Ninh - Cam Lo. The total length is 126.43 km, passing through 6 out of 8 districts, towns, and cities, and 35 communes/wards out of a total of 151 communes/wards/townships; there are 8 interchanges within the province.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board, the Van Ninh - Cam Lo section of the expressway, with a total length of 65.54 km, passing through Quang Binh (33.017 km) and Quang Tri (32.53 km), is under the investor's management and has achieved significant progress. Specifically, the section through Quang Binh has completed 100% of land clearance, and construction on all packages has commenced simultaneously.

Mr. Mai Quy Khanh, Deputy Head of Project Management Department 4, Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board, said that the two construction packages XL1 and XL2 are being implemented simultaneously with a total of 53 work teams, mobilizing nearly 1,500 workers and engineers, along with hundreds of pieces of equipment and machinery. The output achieved so far has reached over 85.5% of the contract value. Labor safety, quality, and environmental hygiene are assessed as being ensured.

"Along the entire route, 30 bridges have been and are being constructed by the contractor. At the same time, many items such as culverts, pedestrian underpasses, road foundations, and road embankment excavation and filling are also being accelerated. For Quang Binh province, all 13 bridges, 17 pedestrian underpasses, and hundreds of culverts of various types are being urgently completed," Mr. Mai Quy Khanh informed.

Besides accelerating the project's progress, the construction of resettlement areas in Quang Binh, comprising four zones with a total area of ​​nearly 9 hectares serving 95 households, has also been completed, contributing to stabilizing the lives of people affected by the project. Related technical infrastructure has also been relocated at all 44 locations.

Accelerate towards the finish line on schedule.

Of the three component projects of the North-South Expressway passing through Quang Binh province, the Bung - Van Ninh project (over 48 km) was completed and opened for technical traffic ahead of schedule at the end of April 2025, six months ahead of schedule.

As for the Vung Ang - Bung project (over 55 km), more than 90% of the construction value has been completed. The route passes through two provinces , Ha Tinh and Quang Binh, with Quang Binh accounting for over 42 km. The project has two main packages, including 33 bridges, one tunnel through the Deo But mountain pass over 1.5 km long, 406 culverts, and 37 pedestrian underpasses.

Currently, 40 construction teams with over 1,200 workers and 620 pieces of equipment are being mobilized. The bridge, culvert, roadbed, and pedestrian underpass sections are basically complete. The Deo But tunnel, in particular, has been opened on both branches, achieving over 99% of the tunnel excavation volume. Remaining items, such as the road surface, guardrails, and safety fences, are being expedited to ensure the project stays on schedule.

As of early May 2025, the project had disbursed all funds from 2022-2024, reaching nearly 8,200 billion VND. The Project Management Board has requested the local authorities to expedite land clearance to ensure the road is open to traffic by mid-2025 as planned.

The Van Ninh - Cam Lo and Vung Ang - Bung expressway projects are expected to be completed by the end of June. Upon completion, the North-South expressway project through Quang Binh province will create a major impetus for inter-regional transportation connectivity, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province in particular, the North Central region, and the whole country in general in the new era of development.
