According to announcements at the recent Internet Day 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam's fixed broadband internet speed has risen to 10th in the world, and mobile broadband internet to 15th globally. After nearly a year of commercialization, 5G networks cover approximately 59% of the population, creating a foundation for the development of the digital economy , digital government, and digital society.
This information was presented by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long at an event organized by the Vietnam Internet Association in collaboration with the Vietnam Internet Center, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and technology businesses. After nearly three decades, the Internet has become an essential infrastructure for socio-economic life, with widespread coverage and connection quality approaching that of developed countries.
However, according to Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long, the current challenge is no longer about expanding scale or increasing speed, but about developing the internet in depth, effectively, and sustainably. Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW identifies science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as pillars of development; in which, the internet is a space for connecting data, a digital platform, and innovation to create practical value.

Emphasizing the core element of sustainable development, the Deputy Minister stated that the internet must be built on a foundation of trust. Sharing this view, the Chairman of the Vietnam Internet Association, Vu Hoang Lien, warned of risks from online fraud and psychological manipulation in the context of the explosion of AI and big data.
According to Nguyen Truong Giang, Acting Director of the Vietnam Internet Center, Vietnam has implemented routing security solutions early, achieving a protection rate of 97% of internet address ranges and protecting approximately 14,000 domain names. Currently, the country has 7 submarine fiber optic cables, 45 data centers; about 85% of households use fiber optic internet, and mobile infrastructure has widespread coverage with affordable service prices.
