iPhone 17 unexpectedly drops in price.

The iPhone 17 and iPhone Air product lines went on sale in Vietnam on the morning of September 19th. Just three days later, some authorized Apple dealers unexpectedly adjusted the price of the standard iPhone 17 model.

Specifically, the 512GB version of the iPhone 17 is being offered at 31.19 million VND, a decrease of 300,000 VND compared to Apple's listed price. Meanwhile, the 256GB version remains at the same price.

According to retailers, sales of the standard iPhone 17 have seen significant growth compared to the iPhone 16 during the same period last year. However, the demand for this product is still not comparable to that of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

This is considered a familiar shopping trend among consumers in the Vietnamese market. When choosing a new iPhone, many Vietnamese customers habitually opt for the top-of-the-line Pro version to experience the latest features and technologies.

According to a report from market research firm Counterpoint Research , the iPhone 16 was the world's best-selling smartphone in the second quarter. The iPhone 16 Pro Max ranked second.

This is completely the opposite in the Vietnamese market. For the past year, the iPhone 16 Pro Max has consistently been the best-selling iPhone model at retailers.

The iPhone Pro and Pro Max versions have always received a lot of attention from Vietnamese consumers. In fact, the iPhone 17 Pro Max was sold out even before its official release.

This is the first year Apple has launched iPhones early in the Vietnamese market. This has led to a surge in demand from domestic customers.

Meanwhile, many authorized Apple resellers (AARs) report that the supply of iPhone 17 Pro Max is currently insufficient to meet market demand. This shortage has driven up the price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max in the secondary market.

Searching on iPhone buying and selling groups, users can easily find posts offering iPhone 17 Pro Max for 43-45 million VND for the 256GB version. The 2TB version is even being pushed up to 75 million VND, 11 million VND higher than the listed price.

In fact, the problem of "price gouging" on the black market for iPhones has been going on for years. Many retailers have required customers to activate the device warranty upon purchase to limit resale. However, this solution doesn't seem to be very effective.
