Speaking at an event held on May 31, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf asserted that Tehran's negotiators do not trust any promises or commitments from the United States. According to him, any agreement must take into account Iran's practical interests.

"Our criterion is that we must achieve concrete results before we make any reciprocal commitments. Until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian people are respected, we will not accept any agreement," IRNA news agency quoted Ghalibaf as saying.
The Iranian Parliament Speaker's statement comes amid a recent stalemate between the US and Iran over the terms of their peace proposal. The US has consistently taken a tough stance on Iran's nuclear program and hundreds of kilograms of enriched uranium, as well as the situation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the Tehran government has shown no sign of yielding to Washington's demands and has repeatedly stressed that the Middle Eastern nation has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
