According to the London-based online newspaper Iran International, in the letter, Pezeshkian emphasized that the president and the government have been excluded from major and important decision-making processes of the country, and the vacuum created has allowed hardline factions within the IRGC to control all affairs.

The newspaper, citing sources, reported that Pezeshkian said that under such circumstances, he was unable to run the government and perform his official duties, and therefore offered to resign immediately.

The above information emerges as Iran and the US continue negotiations to end the conflict that began on February 28. A ceasefire was in effect on April 8, but some reciprocal attacks have continued despite the ongoing dialogue.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state media on May 31 that communication with the U.S. is ongoing and noted that speculation about the negotiations cannot be assessed until a clear outcome is reached, according to Reuters.
