According to information from the People's Committee of Tuyen Thanh commune, on May 27, 2026, a serious landslide occurred on the section of Kenh Ranh road in Bau Chua hamlet, at the beginning of the road bordering the western bank of Rach Bac Chan canal. The total length of the landslide is approximately 40m, with the left side of the road surface collapsing to a depth of about 0.5m, and the subsidence extending about 3m into the road surface.
The landslides are caused by the road being located close to the Ranh Canal, subjected to the impact of water flow and bank erosion; in particular, the high flood level in 2025 caused water to seep into the base of the dike, coupled with hot weather, so when heavy rains occur, it will cause geological changes leading to landslides and land subsidence.

According to Nguyen Hung Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune: "The landslide section on Kenh Ranh road is still developing in a complex and unpredictable manner and shows no signs of stopping. Kenh Ranh road not only serves the transportation needs of more than 30 households but is also an important closed dike system serving the production of over 300 hectares of rice. Currently, the local authorities are very worried because if the problem is not addressed promptly, when the flood comes, the next rice crop will be impossible to produce, affecting the income and livelihoods of the people."
Living near the landslide area and having to travel on this road daily, Ms. Huynh Thi Hai (residing in Bau Chua hamlet) expressed her concern: “In the morning, I only saw a small crack, but in the afternoon, I saw a whole section of the road had collapsed, and it has continued to collapse in the past few days. At this time, students are on summer vacation, so it's less worrying, but people traveling on the road have to drive close to the side. People feel unsafe driving on this road because they don't know if the landslide will continue, while the remaining road section is less than 0.5 meters wide. I urge the authorities to quickly address the landslide so that people can feel safe.”
The Kênh Ranh road, in Bàu Chứa hamlet, Tuyên Thạnh commune, connects with Phước Cường hamlet, Hậu Thạnh commune. This is an embankment managed by the Center for Irrigation and Clean Water (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment).
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Do Huu Phuong, stated: “Through surveys, the Department has requested the commune to erect warning signs and restrict vehicle traffic through the landslide area to ensure the safety of the people. The Department has also directed the Irrigation Sub-Department and the Center for Irrigation and Clean Water to coordinate with the local authorities to report specifically on the causes of the landslide and to calculate remedial measures. Based on that, the Department will advise the Provincial People's Committee to promptly implement solutions to ensure traffic safety, stabilize people's lives, and prevent damage caused by natural disasters.”
Besides the landslide at Ranh Canal, Tuyen Thanh commune also has 5 landslide and land subsidence points along Ca Say Canal, with a total length of about 50m. Worryingly, these landslides are still ongoing and show no signs of stopping.
From the beginning of 2026 to the present, the province has experienced 9 serious landslides and land subsidence incidents, with a total length of over 400 meters. It is hoped that in the future, all levels and sectors will have sustainable, long-term solutions to proactively prevent and combat landslides and land subsidence, instead of just addressing the immediate consequences as is currently the case. In particular, the province urgently needs to allocate funds to address the landslide at Kênh Ranh to ensure the safety of residents in their daily lives and production activities.
