The former Manchester United star will play his final match for FC Seoul against Melbourne City in the AFC Champions League Elite classification round on December 10th, before officially embarking on a new chapter in his career.
Having joined Seoul last February and considered the biggest signing in K.League history, Lingard created a media frenzy in South Korea. However, after what were described as positive discussions with the club's management, both sides agreed to part ways a few months early.
The 32-year-old midfielder shared his feelings on social media: "FC Seoul and I have agreed to terminate my contract at the end of the 2025 season. The match on December 10th will be my last appearance for the club. This wasn't an easy decision. My time playing in Korea has been truly amazing, from the football itself to the atmosphere and the passion of the fans. The affection everyone has shown me over the past two years is invaluable. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to play for a big club like FC Seoul."
With the January transfer window about to open, the future of the English star is attracting interest from many clubs. He has affirmed that he is ready for the next phase after his unforgettable experience in the K.League. It is likely that Lingard will seek a higher level of competition.
Since joining the capital club, Lingard has played 66 matches, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists – quite impressive numbers for a player who had previously struggled to regain his form. He arrived in Seoul on a free transfer after a lackluster spell at Nottingham Forest.
Prior to that, Lingard spent 22 years with MU, making 232 appearances and contributing to three major titles: the FA Cup, the Europa League, and the League Cup.
