K+ will cease operations in Vietnam after 16 years of existence.

On December 3, Saigontourist Cable Television Company (SCTV) announced that it would stop providing K+ channel packages on its infrastructure from January 1, 2026. Although not an official announcement from the parent company, this information also implicitly confirms the termination of operations of the copyright owner of a series of football tournaments loved by Vietnamese users.

"According to the announcement from VSTV, the operator of K+ in Vietnam, VSTV has decided to completely stop providing K+ packages from January 1, 2026," SCTV said.

Accordingly, users of this package on the Saigontourist Cable TV system will be provided with 5 K+ channels until December 31. After that time, the signal will end, including on SCTV and other platforms. Regarding the copyright of the Premier League, the copyright holder will soon notify users in the near future.

Established in 2009, K+ made a big splash when it appeared in Vietnam, providing pay TV services, along with copyrights of top football tournaments. However, this unit was slow to transform during the period of Internet and OTT app distribution format development. The problem of illegal football and copyright infringement habits from users also greatly affected this unit.

Meanwhile, K+ has not made any official announcement. Previously, this station had many moves showing that it was reducing the scale of its operations.

Since the beginning of October, the station has also stopped selling all new packages using satellite receivers (DTH) and Internet receivers (TV Box). K+ TV only sells new OTT services via mobile applications and computer websites. At the same time, they maintain the renewal of service subscriptions already provided. Initially, the company sold 1-year, 6-month, 3-month and 1-month packages. However, the closer to December 31, the shorter the maximum term.

On November 20, when K+ users access to renew their service, the company only offers a complete package to watch the program. However, the number of options is significantly narrowed. This station only offers two options: customers renew monthly or watch until December 31. Thus, the longest option that K+ offers is the end of this year.

By December, partners of this platform such asFPT Play, MyTV, TV360 also stopped selling and renewing K+ packages on their platforms. Only customers who pre-purchased can watch the program.

Since July, information about K+ Television's imminent withdrawal from Vietnam has spread on social media, attracting a large amount of public discussion. The source of the news comes from Canal+, the station's major shareholder, considering withdrawing from the Vietnamese market because the loss "has become significant" and "there is no feasible solution", according to DecodeTV .

"We may decide to drastically restructure our operations here, or even consider withdrawing completely," said Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada.

After that, the station said that they still sell and renew “normally”, and continue to broadcast the tournaments that this company holds the copyright. After this statement, the K+ package on many OTT applications and cable TV is no longer distributed. To watch the copyrighted Premier League, viewers are forced to buy K+.

With the uncertain future of K+, users of this unit and sports- interested audiences are worried about the copyrighted English Premier League football channel.

According to many sources, FPT Play will be the unit taking over the copyright contract of the Premier League in Vietnam, from K+. On paper, the most attractive football tournament on the planet is still held by VSTV until the end of the 2028 season.
