According to information from the Hung Loc commune authorities in Vinh City, local forces, while carrying out their duties on December 14th, discovered dozens of drainage grates stolen from the section of canal leading from the North Canal down to the regulating lake.

Specifically, along the extended sections of Phung Chi Kien and Nguyen Sy Sach roads, vandals stole 26 manhole covers. These covers, approximately 60cm long, 40cm wide, and weighing about 10kg, are made of cast iron. Their function is to prevent debris and leaves from falling into the manholes, ensuring proper drainage and protecting people from falling into the holes while moving around.

The theft of the paving slabs has resulted in numerous "death traps" on the road surface. This route is used by many pedestrians and exercisers daily, making accidents easily occur if they are not careful. Furthermore, the missing slabs restrict drainage and detract from the urban aesthetics.

Residents living along these roads said that the vandalism likely occurred during the recent cold and rainy days, when fewer people passed by and therefore did not notice the incident.

During discussions, the authorities of Hung Loc commune and Hung Dung ward stated that they have already documented the current situation and reported it to the city. Simultaneously, the commune and ward police and urban order enforcement agencies are coordinating investigations, extracting CCTV footage from residents living near the site to identify the perpetrators and will strictly handle the matter according to the law.
