The exhibition showcases 112 statues and groups of statues meticulously selected and preserved by collector Phan Quoc Dung over more than 30 years. With a burning passion and deep love for folk art, he has traveled extensively throughout the northern delta and midland regions, from Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa to Bac Ninh , Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Hai Phong... to collect each ceramic statue, preserving each piece of cultural memory that time is fading away.
The exhibited ceramic sculptures are imbued with the spirit of ancient Vietnam, vividly recreating images of people in the past in their labor, daily life, beliefs, and harmony with nature. The figures of dancers, warriors, monks, women, hunters, children... appear simple yet vibrant, unpretentious yet full of expressive power. Through each posture, gaze, stance, and composition, viewers can feel the breath of history, the place where Vietnamese village culture was formed, developed, and spread.
In particular, these statues are not only products of folk pottery techniques, but also contain profound humanistic messages about courage in overcoming harsh nature, about the aspiration for peace , love of homeland, belief in survival, and the desire for a prosperous and happy life…
The exhibition will take place from May 28, 2025 to June 3, 2025. This is an opportunity for the city's public, researchers, artists, and domestic visitors to access, admire, and learn about the aesthetic, historical, and national values through ceramic art. Through this, it contributes to fostering pride, awareness of cultural heritage preservation, and spreading love for folk art – an indispensable part of Vietnamese cultural identity.
