Release the body, balance the emotions.

Ms. Nguyen Ai Duong (an office worker at Ca Mau Petroleum Fertilizer Joint Stock Company) decided to take traditional dance classes in the evenings after work as a way to improve her health and relieve work stress.

Ms. Ai Duong shared: “After a long day of sitting at work, when I get home, my neck, shoulders, and back are stiff and tired, and I feel completely drained of energy. I explored various sports, but ultimately chose to learn traditional dance. The first reason is that I enjoy it. Secondly, when I immerse myself in the music and body movements, I feel lighter, my mind relaxes, I release energy, and my body is refreshed. Dancing helps me reduce stress, and the next day I can start the day with more energy and complete my work more quickly.”

Besides traditional dance, other genres such as modern dance, folk dance, contemporary dance, and ballet are also popular choices. Each genre has its own training methods. In modern dance, students experience various styles such as sexy dance and K-pop. This discipline helps improve physical flexibility, enhances musicality, and is a method for improving health, relieving stress, and expressing individuality and personality through each dance move.

For contemporary dance, this genre incorporates many ethnic elements and life experiences, expressing them in each dance movement, allowing learners to achieve freedom and spontaneity. This genre also helps practitioners regulate their breathing and develop expressiveness not only during dance but also in their daily lives.

In addition, practicing dance helps to make the body more flexible and supple; effectively addresses problems such as muscle tension, joint stiffness, and neck and shoulder pain, and boosts the immune system. As a result, health improves significantly.

Tran Chi Cuong, a dance teacher at a skills training center in Ca Mau, said: “Some students are very quiet, introverted, or come to the studio feeling sluggish, even irritable due to work, study, and life pressures. But when the music starts playing, when their bodies begin to move with each movement, they seem to brighten up, full of life, and as if they are living in another world , shedding all their worries. When participating in dance classes, students also improve their self-confidence, not only during practice but also in their studies and work.”

For Tran Chi Cuong, dancing helps him chart his future.

Ms. Luong Be Nam (Ward 7, Ca Mau City) shared: “By practicing both traditional and modern dance, I feel more flexible, happier, and have connected with more friends. Most importantly, I feel more confident doing what I love.”

Skill development, career guidance

Besides improving health and releasing energy and emotions, learning to dance also contributes to the development of soft skills and is beneficial in the process of identifying passions and career paths for young people. Excelling in academic subjects or obtaining high qualifications is not everything when young people start working; they also need certain soft skills.

Currently, in Ca Mau, there are many centers and training studios specializing in talent and skill development. Many parents invest in these centers, sending their children to learn skills alongside their academic studies, such as dancing, communication, presentation, MCing, storytelling, etc. Attending these classes allows children to have fun after school, reduces screen time, improves their memory, and helps them meet new friends, thus making them more confident, active, and developing their communication skills.

Early exposure to skills-based subjects helps children become more active, confident, and develop passions from a young age.

In addition, some students, through skills training classes, gradually identify their passions, discover their talents, and have more choices, which greatly helps in the career guidance and job selection process.

Tran Chi Cuong added: “I graduated with a degree in Tourism from Nam Can Tho University. During my studies, I participated in various cultural and artistic programs at the university. Afterwards, I dedicated time to practicing, learning, and participating in various shows, both large and small. It was from these experiences that I identified my passion. After graduating, I took a different path, pursuing my passion and becoming a professional dancer. I continuously practice and learn to improve my skills, and now I can teach and inspire my students with my passion.”

Nowadays, learning to dance is no longer just a trendy pastime but has become an indispensable activity in modern life. If you are still wondering what form of exercise to choose to improve your health and release energy, consider dancing. This discipline will surely bring you the most wonderful experiences through music and body movements.
