Tourists experience making traditional snail-shaped cakes with locals at the Duc Phong hamlet community tourism site in Tien Phong commune (Da Bac district).

What is easily observed when visiting the villages of the Muong, Dao, and Tay ethnic groups in the area is that the people still maintain a lifestyle close to nature, with customs and traditions deeply rooted in their local culture. Many villages still retain the traditional architecture of stilt houses with thatched roofs of the Muong people; and single-story wooden houses with thatched roofs of the Dao people. Annual festivals are maintained, such as the Dao people's New Year festival in Cao Son commune; the Thac Bo Temple festival in Vay Nua commune... In addition, some smaller festivals are preserved by the ethnic communities, such as the Muong people's rice planting festival; the Dao people's coming-of-age ceremony and naming ceremony; and the Tay people's new rice harvest festival…

According to Comrade Ban Kim Quy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Bac district, in addition to natural resources, unique human resources are gradually being exploited. Many hamlets, villages, and residential areas in the communes of Hien Luong, Vay Nua, Tien Phong, Cao Son, Tu Ly, etc., have been and are building community-based tourism destinations.

The Muong ethnic minority community tourism site in Ke hamlet, Hien Luong commune, is located beside the picturesque Hien Luong Bay, within the Hoa Binh Lake tourist area. The stunning lake scenery and exciting activities such as rafting and kayaking are sure to please visitors.

The fascinating customs and traditions of the Muong Ao Ta ethnic group and the somewhat mystical stories surrounding the self-service inn create a strong attraction for the Duc Phong hamlet (formerly known as Da Bia), Tien Phong commune. Every year, a large number of visitors come to explore and experience this destination, peaking during summer holidays and weekends. Here, tourists find a sense of peace and tranquility, immersing themselves in the life and activities of the highland people with memorable journeys: hiking through the villages, staying in homestays, participating in cultural and artistic exchanges, buying local products at the self-service inn, exploring caves, and attending community classes.

Also on the journey to explore Da Bac's community-based tourism, visitors can hardly miss Sung hamlet, Cao Son commune - the first Dao Tien ethnic minority hamlet in the province to offer community-based tourism. The majestic Bieu mountain range and the winding terraced rice fields stretching along the hillsides create a stunning landscape. Along with that, the preservation of many traditional cultural values of the Dao Tien people makes this destination particularly attractive. Besides providing standard tourism services, visitors can enjoy Dao ethnic specialties and experience the daily activities of the locals such as rice planting, forestry, livestock farming, cooking, and fishing...

Currently, the district has dozens of typical homestays such as: Thanh Chung, Nhat Quy, Xuan Lan in Sung hamlet; Lake View, Ngoc Nhem, Quang Tho in Duc Phong hamlet; Sanh Thuan, Huu Thao, Sac Luyen in Ke hamlet… Thanks to the active coordination and support of organizations and businesses, the district has developed several tourism programs: the "Brocade Painting" tour with a 3-day, 2-night itinerary exploring the nature and customs of the Muong ethnic group in Da Bac - Tan Lac district; the "Discover the Muong Land" tour with a 2-day, 1-night itinerary exploring the nature and customs of the Muong ethnic group in Ke and Duc Phong hamlets; and the "Footprints of the Sacred Forest" tour with a 2-day, 1-night itinerary exploring the pristine nature and traditional culture of the Dao Tien people in Sung hamlet.

According to Mr. Ban Kim Quy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Bac district, to date, the district has 4 hamlets/villages in 3 communes (Cao Son, Hien Luong, and Tien Phong) developing the community-based tourism model, attracting approximately 200 members to participate in groups providing community-based tourism services. Da Bac's community-based tourism is continuing to receive support from Da Bac Community-Based Tourism Joint Stock Company (Da Bac CBT) in promoting communication, diversifying potential customers, and strengthening cooperation with other businesses, travel agencies, and social enterprises to help tourism communities in the district have a stable source of visitors and confidently develop community-based tourism in a green and sustainable direction. On the other hand, Da Bac's community-based tourism sector has received attention and support from national target projects and programs, significantly improving technical infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure; training to enhance the quality of tourism human resources; equipping cultural institutions; and conducting training and awareness campaigns to promote the preservation and promotion of cultural identity and environmental landscapes. This has contributed to the rapid and sustainable development of Da Bac's community-based tourism sector, making it an ideal destination for domestic and international tourists.
