On July 1, 2025, the Da Giang River witnessed a historic turning point: the three provinces of Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc, and Phu Tho merged to form the new Phu Tho province. Hoa Binh City concluded its journey, giving way to Hoa Binh Ward – formed from the merger of seven wards: Phuong Lam, Dong Tien, Quynh Lam, Huu Nghi, Tan Thinh, Thinh Lang, and Trung Minh. Spanning 3,200 hectares and encompassing 75,000 people, the new ward erased old boundaries, weaving a prosperous urban tapestry brimming with aspirations.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a resident born and raised in Phuong Lam area, shared: "With the merger of 7 wards, I see it as small branches of rivers merging into the large Da Giang River, becoming stronger and more united. We expect the new Hoa Binh ward to bring wide, tree-lined roads, job opportunities in tourism and services… so that our children and grandchildren don't have to leave their hometown. The name Hoa Binh being given back to the ward is a source of faith, pride, and perhaps also a promise of a prosperous life, while still preserving our identity so that every resident today and tomorrow will always have a Hoa Binh to return to.”
Ms. Lan's hopes, like those of thousands of Hoa Binh residents, are gradually taking shape along the Da Giang River, where the waterways are not only a scenic feature but also the source of an open urban space, blending nature, people, and aspirations for development. With its vast expanse of water, tranquil alluvial plains, and embracing hills and mountains along its banks, the Da Giang River is the "green boulevard" shaping the future of Hoa Binh ward.
According to Comrade Nguyen Duc Dung, Secretary of the Hoa Binh Ward Party Committee, the Da River is like the lifeblood of the region, and is planned to be the "heart" of development by 2045. Along both banks of the Da River, the first strokes of the urban landscape are already emerging. The Friendship Bridge, with a total investment of 590 billion VND, completed in 2021, rises majestically with its two cable-stayed towers, illuminating the Da River every night, not only connecting the two banks but also opening up a vibrant trade route. The 2-kilometer-long Da Giang pedestrian street, passing through Phuong Lam and Dong Tien, is bustling every weekend with the sound of gongs, the flavors of traditional cuisine, characteristic OCOP products, and the smiles of tourists.
Hoa Binh Ward is a newly established administrative unit, yet it carries within it the sacred memories of the entire region. The name "Hoa Binh" is not just a place name, but a memory, a source of pride, a link between the past and the future. Naming the ward Hoa Binh also means preserving the roots so that this familiar name lives on in a new form.
Today, Hoa Binh Ward is like a sturdy boat, sailing down the Da Giang River, carrying the memories of the Muong people and dreams of prosperity. With its advantageous location near the river, roads, and markets, the ward will become a multi-functional center, where tourists can immerse themselves in the vibrant sounds of gongs amidst a modern city; where investors see opportunities in every meter of land along the river. As the pedestrian street is extended and the ecological park is formed, the Da Giang axis will become a dazzling "frontage," reflecting the enduring aspiration of Hoa Binh – not just a name, but a place where every heart returns to its roots.
