Farmers in Vinh Dong commune (Kim Boi) focus on planting summer-autumn rice.
In this year's Winter-Spring crop, the total area of annual crops in the province reached 71,267 thousand hectares, exceeding the plan assigned at the beginning of the year. Of which, rice is still the main crop with 16,478 thousand hectares, reaching 103.6% of the plan and 99.99% over the same period; the estimated yield is 59.9 quintals/ha, the output is 98.04 thousand tons, reaching 101.18% over the same period and 106.1% of the plan. The corn area reached over 15.86 thousand hectares; of which, the 2024 Winter corn area is 3.39 thousand hectares, the output is 15.93 thousand tons; the 2025 Spring corn area is 15.86 thousand hectares, reaching 103.7% over the same period and 103.8% of the plan, the estimated yield is 49.5 quintals/ha, the output is 78.52 thousand tons.
Annual vegetables and beans such as squash, cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumber, etc. continue to be short-term crops with high economic efficiency. The total area reaches 9.89 thousand hectares, the estimated output reaches over 121 thousand tons, making an important contribution to stabilizing the supply of vegetables and increasing income for small-scale producers.
Mr. Bui Van Huy's family specializes in growing green squash in Ot hamlet, Chi Dao commune (Lac Son) said: At the beginning of the season, it was cold, the plants grew slowly, but thanks to careful care and organic fertilizer, by mid-season, when the weather warmed up, the plants grew well, with even fruit and good yield. The price of green squash this year is relatively stable, with buyers mainly coming from Hanoi and neighboring provinces.
In the livestock sector, the dissemination of disease prevention measures has been promoted; localities have increased vaccination, supplementary vaccination and application to livestock. According to statistics, the total livestock herd in the province is 9.61 million; the output of livestock and poultry for sale in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 2,250 tons. The area for raising fish in ponds and fields is maintained at 2,713 hectares; the number of fish cages is 5,094; the output of aquaculture in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at over 5,520 tons.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Nhuan, Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment: The success of this year's Winter-Spring crop is thanks to the early guidance of the crop season and preparation of production materials, ensuring stable production, close management to reality and the initiative of farmers. Right from the beginning of the crop season, localities strictly followed the crop calendar, reviewed the planting area, used appropriate varieties and strengthened measures to prevent and combat natural disasters. The irrigation campaign mobilized over 328,000 working days, cleared nearly 1.64 million m² of canals, ensuring water supply for production in prolonged drought conditions.
The end of the Winter-Spring crop is also the time when localities prepare for the Summer-Autumn crop. Currently, the agricultural sector is focusing on reviewing the crop structure in the crop, accelerating the harvest of Spring rice, preparing the land and sowing according to the right time frame, avoiding the impact of storms and rains. In addition, localities are building growing areas associated with area codes, promoting digital transformation in the cultivation and consumption of agricultural products.
According to the new crop production plan, the whole province strives to have a total cultivated area of 45,050 hectares. Of which, 32,810 hectares are grain crops, about 21,760 hectares are rice, striving for a yield of 56 quintals/ha; 11,050 hectares are corn, with a yield of 48 quintals/ha; 4,710 hectares are vegetables and beans of all kinds... The Department of Agriculture recommends that localities prioritize the use of short-term rice varieties with high yield, good quality, and adaptability to adverse weather conditions. For color crops, it is encouraged to arrange reasonable areas to spread out the crop, ensuring continuous supply to the market. Along with that, the work of converting crop structure on inefficient rice land, developing organic production models, applying high technology and promoting linkages in agricultural product consumption continues to be considered a focus.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from June to November 2025, the ENSO phenomenon will remain neutral. It is expected that about 4-5 storms and tropical depressions will make landfall; there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. The flow to large reservoirs on the Da River may be 15-30% short. The provincial Department of Agriculture identifies natural disaster prevention and control and ensuring the safety of the irrigation system as parallel tasks to minimize damage caused by extreme weather in the new crop. Along with that, enhancing the role of agricultural cooperatives, expanding the regional commodity production model, and controlling the quality of inputs and outputs are also solutions proposed to maintain the growth momentum of the whole industry in 2025.
