In the period of 2021-2025, Lai Chau province has focused on developing and recognizing 3 community tourism villages that meet 3-star OCOP standards, including: Si Thau Chai and Lao Chai 1 villages (Ta Leng commune), Gia Khau 1 (Doan Ket ward). Since being built and put into operation, these tourism village models have attracted over 45,000 visitors each year, generating revenue of over 500 million VND/year.

Although the revenue is not really large, the initial steps show that the local development direction in the new field with the people is completely correct. Through these models, local people can directly participate in service activities such as accommodation, cuisine , motorbike taxi, tour guide for tourists, and performing arts.

Developing community tourism creates big changes to the face of rural areas in Lai Chau

Since participating in community tourism development, households in the village have also focused on village sanitation, ensuring security and order, making the face of the countryside new, houses spacious, schools flourishing, the landscape environment green - clean - beautiful, traditional culture is respected, preserved and maintained.

Mr. Tan Lao U, member of Lai Chau Province Folk Arts Association, said: From the initial successes through community tourism development models in the locality, it shows that the direction of developing service economy in Lai Chau rural areas has a lot of potential. However, there are still many difficulties and problems that need to be overcome to achieve more efficiency. That is to propagate and train skills in developing service tourism for local people, to be able to meet the needs of both domestic and international tourists. It is necessary to orient development with clear goals, choosing unique products with local characteristics to attract tourists. At the same time, promote the completion of infrastructure to ensure standards, change the customs and habits of the people, especially the lifestyle must be suitable to the requirements of the service tourism industry.

Currently, Lai Chau province also focuses on training skills for people in community tourism development locations in the area. Every year, it organizes direct training classes in the community for people on room service skills, cooking skills, welcoming tourists, and tour guides. Since then, people in localities with tourism development models have been very excited.

To continue exploiting the potential and strengths of community tourism associated with OCOP products, Lai Chau province has proposed many solutions for synchronous implementation in the province's tourism development areas. Specifically, continuing to promote awareness: Diversifying forms of propaganda and mobilization, helping people - especially ethnic minorities - understand the value and potential of the OCOP model associated with community tourism.

Continue to organize training and coaching to improve knowledge of community tourism, service skills, management, service provision, etc. for local officials and people. Issue policies to support the development of OCOP community tourism products suitable to the characteristics of highland and ethnic minority areas.

Information from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lai Chau province said: In the coming time, the province will complete the tourism map, prioritizing the inclusion of OCOP community tourism villages in the provincial tourism promotion system. Support the construction of OCOP sales points at the reception areas to increase brand recognition of local products.

Community tourism creates jobs and increases income for people in rural areas

Promote and connect markets: Participate in fairs, exhibitions, and domestic and international trade and tourism promotion programs. Collaborate with travel agencies to bring OCOP products to tours.

Strengthen inspection and ensure service quality: Inspect and guide tourism service businesses in the village to comply with food safety and hygiene, build collective kitchens, and improve services to create trust and satisfaction for tourists.

Promoting the role of local authorities and departments: Management agencies continue to accompany and guide people to build a methodical and oriented OCOP community tourism model, ensuring suitability with each ethnic cultural region to create unique and attractive tourism products.

It can be said that developing OCOP products associated with community tourism is the right direction, bringing many practical benefits in terms of economy - culture - society. With the synchronous participation of all levels, sectors and the consensus of the people, this model will contribute to building new rural areas effectively and sustainably.
