Dinh Bac's argumentative moment
Hanoi Police FC ( CAHN FC ) secured the V-League championship three rounds early, after a 2-0 victory over Thanh Hoa in round 23. Despite achieving complete glory with a dominant season, just before scoring the decisive goal to claim the title, CAHN FC witnessed a "scratch" in the penalty shootout dispute between Dinh Bac and Alan Sebastiao.
In the 84th minute, Dinh Bac was fouled by Thanh Hoa defender Van Hung inside the penalty area. The 2004-born striker cleverly pushed the ball away before his opponent could pounce with the sole of his boot. After reviewing the replay, referee Ngo Duy Lan pointed to the penalty spot. It was a reasonable decision, but it ignited controversy within the CAHN club itself.

When the referee blew the whistle for a penalty, Dinh Bac was holding the ball. However, foreign player Alan Sebastiao decided to take the ball to take the penalty. The argument between Alan and Dinh Bac only subsided when Dinh Bac agreed to step back. After Alan successfully converted the penalty, Dinh Bac went out to celebrate and share the joy with his teammates.
Dinh Bac's desire to take penalty kicks is understandable. Before this match, the striker born in 2004 was playing exceptionally well with 10 goals in 6 games. Dinh Bac had overtaken Hoang Hen to lead the unofficial race for the top domestic scorer title. He could narrow the gap with the league's top scorer (currently with 14 goals) to just 3 goals if he successfully converted his penalty against Thanh Hoa. Ironically, that leader is... Alan Sebastiao. The moment of爭奪 (爭奪 -爭奪) for the right to take penalty kicks also ignited a silent individual competition within CAHN Club, where Alan wanted the top scorer title and Dinh Bac wanted the same.
"The players wanted to take a penalty, that's normal. What's important is the common good of the team," assistant coach Thanh Luong explained regarding the controversial situation between Alan Sebastiao and Dinh Bac.

In principle, Dinh Bac was not wrong. He wanted to take the penalty to extend his consecutive scoring streak in the V-League to seven matches, a number very difficult to break even for foreign players, let alone domestic ones. If he scored, the 22-year-old striker would narrow the gap with Alan to just three goals. Dinh Bac was also the one who earned the penalty, when his burst of speed forced the opponent to commit a foul.
However, logically, choosing Alan Sebastiao to take the penalty was the correct decision. The Brazilian striker is the top penalty taker for CAHN Club, with 3 goals since the beginning of the season. Dinh Bac also has 2 successful penalty kicks this season, but both were when Alan was not on the field.
Dinh Bac wanted to score the winning goal to secure the V-League title for CAHN FC, which is understandable, as it would be a turning point that could elevate the stature and value of a player on the rise. However, every team needs respect and order in all circumstances, even when they are almost certain to win the championship.
Continue to make progress
Dinh Bac still has a chance to surpass Alan Sebastiao with 3 matches remaining, but even if he doesn't, the 22-year-old striker can be proud of what he has already achieved.

CAHN Club is a united team.

Dinh Bac didn't need that penalty against Thanh Hoa to be recognized. He matured in the "furnace" of pressure, from days of being crushed by the sometimes unreasonable expectations of public opinion...
Gone are the days of impulsive, individualistic ball handling, driven by a desire to make his mark above all else. After two years, Dinh Bac has changed. He knows how to control his ego, humble himself and sacrifice for the team, handle situations neatly, observe and coordinate, and seek out space... all to serve the team's overall style of play.
That's also how CAHN Club won the V-League championship. Coach Alexandre Polking built a team with enough discipline so that no one was superior to anyone else, but also enough excellence so that each player could be elevated if they knew when to step back.
The moment the ego retreats behind the scenes to make way for the collective good, the true essence of a great team and great players emerges.
