Mathematics: Long, new, and difficult
Ms. Bui Thi Oanh commented that the sample math exam contains 70% of the content from grade 12 and 30% from grade 11 (previously, grade 11 knowledge accounted for 10%). For students, this is a long, new, and difficult exam. The knowledge and comprehension level accounts for approximately 6.5 points, but only the 3-point multiple-choice section (Part 1) is manageable for students. To achieve 6-7 points, students need to truly understand the questions, carefully read the given information, possess a solid foundation in knowledge, be proficient in formulas, and apply mathematics to real-world situations.
This year's 12th-grade students will be the first to take the high school graduation exam using the new exam format.
Literature: It's difficult to get many high scores.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam believes the sample exam has a familiar structure with two main parts: reading comprehension and essay writing, with a point ratio of 4/6 (instead of 3/7 as before). The exam's choice of materials is not too difficult, but still ensures novelty. In the essay writing section, the literary analysis question has changed: analyzing a small idea of the content, which has significantly reduced the psychological pressure on candidates. However, students need to clearly understand the characteristics of the genre, requiring better reading comprehension skills, so it is not easy to write.
English: Highly practical
Ms. Nguyen Lien Huong commented: The sample exam no longer tests students' grammar and vocabulary knowledge through separate questions, but instead uses fill-in-the-blank exercises to complete passages. This helps students understand the application of English grammar and vocabulary in specific contexts. The exam also adds new question types such as arranging sentences to complete dialogues, paragraphs, and letters, helping to test and evaluate higher-order thinking and language application skills, rather than simply testing rote memorization. The new exam has a higher level of application and demands a higher level of knowledge from students, aligning with the method of using high school graduation exam scores for university and college admissions.
New exam subjects: High level of differentiation
Economics , law, and information technology are new subjects in the high school graduation exam starting in 2025. Commenting on the sample exam for information technology, teacher Pham Duc Vuong stated that the exam content covers many areas of information technology such as AI, computer networks, HTML/CSS, programming, databases, and information technology ethics. There is a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
According to Mr. Vuong, the exam questions varied in difficulty, ranging from basic questions to those requiring analytical and synthetic thinking. Some questions demanded in-depth knowledge and strong application skills from students. The exam also had a high degree of differentiation.
Regarding the subject of economics and law education , Mr. Vu Huy Nghia believes that the proportion of recognition and comprehension questions in the sample exam accounts for approximately 6 out of 10 points; the remaining 4 out of 10 points are application-based questions with a high level of difficulty, making it challenging for students choosing this subject for graduation; suitable for universities and colleges using the results for admissions. The sample exam includes application-based questions, requiring students to analyze situations and combine learned knowledge to solve them. In addition, there are questions that require connections between multiple sections or the application of practical knowledge to answer.
