The reality is that this scenario is unlikely. Currently, the Portuguese superstar still needs 31 more goals to reach that historic milestone. While this number is not impossible for a striker as great as Ronaldo, the time available before the 2026 World Cup is quite limited.
For the remainder of the 2025/26 season, Ronaldo and Al Nassr have a maximum of seven club matches remaining. His team has a great opportunity to win the Saudi Pro League for the first time since CR7 joined in 2023. In addition, Al Nassr can also play up to two more matches in the AFC Champions League Two, Asia's second-tier continental competition.
After that, the Portuguese national team will have a friendly match against Chile before heading into the 2026 World Cup. Notably, goals scored in international friendlies will still count towards Ronaldo's official goal tally.

If Portugal progresses deep into the World Cup, Ronaldo could play up to eight matches thanks to the tournament's new expanded format. In total, he would have approximately 17 matches between now and the end of the tournament, meaning he would need to score an average of nearly two goals per game to reach the 1,000-goal milestone.
This is clearly a very difficult task, even for Ronaldo at his peak with Real Madrid. Current statistics show he has scored 12 goals in 15 matches in 2026, a good performance but not enough to create the necessary breakthrough.
Furthermore, the fact that Ronaldo is no longer consistently scoring hat-tricks, something he hasn't done in almost two years, makes this goal even more distant.
Ronaldo is close to reaching the milestone of 1,000 goals. If he maintains his consistent form and avoids injuries, it is highly likely that CR7 will reach this historic achievement around October or November of this year, rather than at the World Cup.
