Stimulating demand for rural tourism development.

Agro-tourism – rural tourism – has recently become popular with many tourists. In Binh Thuan province, some localities have leveraged the advantages of rivers, streams, lakes, and gardens to develop tourism. Recently, the Provincial People's Council passed a resolution to support 2 billion VND for a rural tourism model, creating further opportunities to stimulate the development of rural tourism...

Many rural homestays attract tourists.

Among the millions of tourists who have visited Binh Thuan recently, many are captivated by the beautiful scenery: "Blue sea, white sand, golden sunshine." However, many tourists, after enjoying the beach, seek out lakes, waterfalls, and gardens to explore. At Ham Thuan Lake (Ham Thuan Bac) and La Ngau White Bridge (Tanh Linh), during the recent holidays, more than 10,000 visitors came, sometimes exceeding 1,000 in a single day, causing both locations to be overcrowded and unable to accommodate visitors without prior reservations.

Why is this place so popular? First, it's the natural beauty, the scenery, and the delicious food. Three years ago, when tourism was just beginning in La Ngau, there was only the La Nga River flowing through the low-lying area, creating a small lake that locals used for swimming. Visitors came simply to admire the scenery and immerse themselves in the cool waters of the La Nga River, taking a few photos with the river as a backdrop. Later, as the number of visitors increased, some areas planted flowers to enhance the view, while others focused on delicious local specialties such as mountain goat, free-range chicken, river fish, and black pigs raised by the local people. This catered to both the culinary needs of tourists and created jobs for the local population. Although the legal procedures for rural tourism are not yet complete, the model has been supported by the government, the people, and especially by the growing number of tourists.

Da Mi is developing eco-tourism and achieving initial success.

Similarly to La Ngau, in Da Mi, Mr. Minh independently researched and invested in agro-tourism by exploiting durian, macadamia, avocado, mangosteen, banana, and mango orchards – advantageous crops in Da Mi. Taking advantage of the Ham Thuan – Da Mi hydroelectric reservoir, from having to travel by canoe to the orchards to occasionally transport tourists who want to camp overnight on some islands on the lake, Mr. Minh has invested heavily in yachts for tourists to admire the lake and mountains, and also opened tours to explore the fruit-growing islands on the reservoir.

Mr. Minh confided that initially, he hadn't calculated the costs and thought guests could freely enjoy all the fruits available in his orchard. However, when the durian and mangosteen from his 5-hectare orchard became too expensive to supply guests, he had to buy them from outside, resulting in significant losses. Later, he continued to offer guests the opportunity to enjoy the fruits from his orchard, but with limitations. In particular, Da Mi, besides its picturesque scenery and year-round cool "mini-Da Lat" climate, offers a variety of fruits that can be picked and eaten, along with many dishes featuring naturally occurring fish from Ham Thuan Lake such as gobies, catfish, and other species, as well as free-range chickens raised on durian feed (during the season), captivating tourists. According to Mr. Minh, agro-tourism – rural tourism in Binh Thuan – has recently developed strongly, meeting the needs of tourists in line with the green tourism trend. However, most tourist destinations still face difficulties in completing the necessary legal frameworks. "If I receive financial support, I will invest in expanding my business by adding more homestays, training staff, and broadening my marketing efforts... Besides financial support, the province needs to create conditions for rural tourism establishments to complete their legal procedures so that they can pay taxes in full, contributing to increased budget revenue for the province," said Minh.

As for Mr. Loc, if he receives financial support, he will invest in raising free-range chickens, mountain goats, and indigenous black pigs for the ethnic minority communities in the region to create jobs and increase income for the people, while also meeting the consumption needs of tourists...

Besides the two rural tourist destinations of La Ngau and Ham Thuan - Da Mi Lake in the province, there are quite a few other rural tourist destinations in the districts, towns, and cities, and most of them attract a certain number of visitors...

At a glance, it's clear that agro-tourism – rural tourism – has contributed to the richness and diversity of Binh Thuan's tourism industry, meeting the needs of both domestic and international tourists. Looking at other provinces and cities, the image of foreign tourists visiting and experiencing activities like riding buffaloes, planting rice, and picking tea is common. In Binh Thuan, however, tourists can paddle basket boats with fishermen, pick dragon fruit with gardeners, or visit the Da Mi fruit orchards to enjoy local specialties like macadamia nuts, durian, and mangosteen. During holidays, they can even make traditional sticky rice cakes (banh chung)... These are just some of the highlights, allowing tourists to immerse themselves in nature and the daily activities of farmers and fishermen, activities that are quite unique to city dwellers and international visitors.

Providing financial support to stimulate the development of agro-tourism and rural tourism is a strategy to give rural areas the opportunity to increase their revenue. Besides that, it also enriches the tourism industry and encourages continuous improvement and innovation to attract more and more tourists. Above all, it is the inevitable direction for Binh Thuan to develop green and sustainable tourism...
