Recently, in Kon Plông district, Kon Tum province, a sophisticated scam involving online hotel, homestay, and resort bookings has emerged targeting tourists wishing to visit Măng Đen town.

Specifically, through social media platforms like Facebook, Zalo, or websites of unknown origin, malicious individuals often impersonate the Fanpages and Websites of reputable accommodation establishments, using stolen images and offering attractive room rates to entice customers to transfer deposit money.

After receiving the money, the perpetrators cut off all communication and disappeared. This behavior seriously affects the rights of the people and damages the reputation of accommodation businesses in the area, impacting the image of tourism in Mang Den, Kon Plong district.

To prevent and deter fraudulent activities and ensure the legitimate rights of citizens, Mr. Dang Dinh Toan, Head of the Culture, Science and Information Department of Kon Plong District, suggested that the People's Committees of communes and towns strengthen propaganda to local residents about fraudulent schemes when booking rooms online; coordinate with the local police to monitor and grasp the cybersecurity situation, promptly report and handle relevant information within their authority…

The Mang Den Tourism Association and accommodation service businesses should proactively announce official contact channels (Website, Fanpage, hotline, etc.) so that customers are aware; regularly check, detect, and report cases of impersonation using their names and images to defraud customers.

Locals and tourists should only book rooms through official channels: websites, verified Facebook pages, and reputable booking apps (Agoda, Booking.com, Traveloka, etc.); do not transfer deposit money to unknown individuals, especially to personal bank accounts that do not match the name of the accommodation; carefully check information and compare the phone number, address, and images of the accommodation across multiple platforms.

Alternatively, guests can contact the accommodation directly by phone to confirm before transferring the deposit for the reservation…

Mang Den is a famous tourist destination not only in Kon Tum but also throughout the country. On holidays and weekends, Mang Den attracts many tourists for sightseeing and relaxation. During the April 30th and May 1st holidays, accommodations in Mang Den were fully booked.
