Discipline and commitment

In recent years, the training scale of universities has been constantly increasing due to the strong investment in conditions to ensure teaching and learning. Therefore, every year, the enrollment quota of some schools reaches tens of thousands. However, the output, which is the graduates, has also 'fallen' quite a lot.

It can be seen that the rate of students graduating on time is mostly very low. Some schools have only 37-38 students graduating on time for every 100 students, and higher numbers are around 40-60 students. Very few schools have a rate above 80%.

According to regulations, the maximum time for students to complete a course does not exceed twice the time according to the standard study plan for the entire course for each training form of the university . If the training program is 4 years, students have a maximum of 8 years to complete it. However, after 6 years, the graduation rate of many schools is still only 60 - 80%, some schools only 40 - 50%. Even after the maximum time of 8 years, many students still cannot graduate.

The lack of time management skills, study planning and rest planning is the main cause of this situation. Students still have a coping mindset in studying, studying to pass the subject rather than studying to understand. They are lazy to accumulate credits early, only "sprinting" in the final year and losing direction, not knowing what they are studying for.

Next is the learning environment and school support. Some training programs are heavy on theory, little on practice, and lack flexibility in course arrangement. The lack of personalized learning advice for weak or slow-progressing students, and the low self-study spirit of students are also causes.

The causes also come from external factors such as financial pressure forcing students to work more; temptations from social networks or lack of balance between studying, working, living and loving...

To increase the on-time graduation rate, the solution lies not only in scores but in building a more realistic personal development roadmap.

Schools need to design more flexible learning programs, allowing early registration, advanced learning, or parallel online learning... Strengthen academic advising and enhance early warning systems for students at risk of falling behind. Next is to create a school culture that encourages students to be proactive, share, and support each other.

For students, the following things need to be done: First, build a personal learning roadmap right from the first year. Second, determine which semester should study how many credits, which subjects should be studied early. Third, plan your studies, part-time jobs and play clearly. Fourth, find a mentor or study partner, a knowledgeable person or a good study group can take you very far. Next, proactively learn more soft skills and career orientation. When students understand what they are studying to serve, they will be less likely to deviate.

Don't let 4 years of university pass by in a blur. Remember that the first year is the orientation year to learn how to study, how to live, how to work in a group. The second year is the experimental year, you need to join clubs, work part-time, go on field trips... but don't neglect your studies. The third year is the acceleration year to build professional capacity, start shaping your career path. The fourth year is the breakthrough year, preparing projects, theses, job applications, interview skills...

College is not a sprint, it is a journey that requires discipline and faith. Graduating on time is not just about getting a degree, it is about keeping a commitment to yourself.
