Hung Nghia area (in Hung Nghia hamlet, Dau Giay commune, Dong Nai province) used to be a "difficult land", people's lives faced many difficulties and shortages. However, thanks to the timely care of Party committees and authorities at all levels, along with the unceasing efforts of the people, this heroic land has "changed its skin and flesh".

One day at the end of August 2025, we followed the staff of the Hamlet Executive Board to visit the heroic land of Hung Nghia. The roads leading to the residential area were paved with new asphalt and concrete, spacious and clean. The atmosphere here was bustling and joyful as people prepared for the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2.

Resistance zone "changes skin, changes flesh"

If in the past, people often remembered Hung Nghia with the image of a low-lying, arid, “dusty sunny, muddy rainy” land, now the revolutionary land of the past has taken on a new look. Temporary thatched houses have been replaced by solid, spacious houses. Green, fruit-laden orchards follow each other. Economic and social life has improved, the appearance of the countryside changes every day.

According to local elders, Hung Nghia used to be the revolutionary cradle of Dong Nai , the birthplace of many outstanding people who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation. After the country was reunified, this place became a "good land for birds to nest", attracting people from many provinces and cities to live and work.

At first, the people's lives were extremely difficult. The steep hilly terrain and deep depressions made farming difficult. People had to work hard to level the ground and fill in soil to be able to grow crops. The scarce water source meant that production only depended on the rainy season. However, with strong willpower and a spirit of hard work, the people of Hung Nghia turned the land of "dogs eating stones, chickens eating gravel" into lush green gardens and brought high economic efficiency.

Party Cell Secretary, Head of Hung Nghia Hamlet (Dau Giay Commune) Vo Van Du shared: Thanks to the new rural construction program, the locality has received much attention and investment from the Party and the State. Roads are paved with asphalt and concrete to the alleys, making it convenient and safe for people to travel and transport agricultural products. The national grid has been brought to the locality, helping people use it in their daily lives and increase production. Schools have been fully built in the area (from kindergarten to primary and secondary schools), helping students to go to school conveniently. The medical station has been built spaciously, meeting the health care needs of the people...

In addition, Party and State committees at all levels have paid attention to and cared for the people with many practical policies such as: organizing training programs to improve techniques in caring for plants and animals; introducing preferential loan sources so that people have the conditions to invest in economic development... Thanks to that, many families have overcome difficulties and risen up, their lives have changed significantly.

“The people’s continuous efforts and the timely support of the Party and the State have helped many people escape poverty sustainably and stabilize their lives. Currently, there are more than 640 households in Hung Nghia hamlet, of which only 3 are poor,” Mr. Du shared.

Typical farmers

On our journey to learn about the changes in Hung Nghia, we visited the family of Mr. Lai Hoang Viet (63 years old), one of the typical examples of farmers who have the will to overcome difficulties and rise up in life. Mr. Viet is a farmer and business household with good production and business at the provincial level in the locality.

According to Mr. Viet, the terrain of Hung Nghia land used to be hilly and hilly, not as flat as it is today. Investing in agriculture encountered many difficulties, mainly relying on "water from the sky". Therefore, farmers mostly grew crops in the rainy months with short-term crops (rice, corn, beans, etc.), while the dry season was long and often led to a lack of irrigation water. That made crop yields low and the quality of the products was not guaranteed.

Later, Mr. Viet was given the opportunity by the local authorities to attend training courses to improve his skills in caring for plants and animals. From there, he gained a lot of knowledge and experience and boldly drilled wells, taking advantage of underground water sources to proactively produce all year round. When the national grid was extended to the fields, farming became more convenient, helping to increase agricultural economic efficiency.

With determination and careful calculation, Mr. Viet and his wife gradually accumulated and bought more land to expand production. Currently, his family owns more than 3 hectares of land, specializing in green-skinned grapefruit and growing some other valuable plants such as cocoa. Thanks to agricultural economics, his family's life has become increasingly prosperous, allowing him to build a spacious house and provide for his children's education.

“What I am most proud of is not my assets, but that my two children have both gone to college and have stable jobs. Seeing them grow up, I feel that all the hardships of the past were worth it,” Mr. Viet emotionally expressed.

Life has improved, people are increasingly attached, united, and actively contribute to building a rich and beautiful locality. The community spirit and revolutionary tradition of Hung Nghia are always strongly promoted. Along with that, the Movement of All People Uniting to Build a Cultural Life is widely deployed. People actively participate in cultural, artistic, and sports activities; strictly comply with the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's laws.

Party Cell Secretary, Head of Hung Nghia Hamlet VO VAN DU

Another example is Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh (65 years old) in Hung Nghia hamlet. Born into a large family in Binh Dinh province (now Gia Lai province), in 1990, he decided to leave his hometown to go to Dong Nai (current residence) to start a business.

“At that time, I bought 1.3 hectares of land. The house was temporary, but I was determined to do business. Luckily, the first crops were good and the prices were good, so I paid off the debt within a year and had enough capital left to reinvest,” Mr. Chinh said.

Recently, Mr. Chinh has been quick to change crops from short-term crops (beans, corn, etc.) to fruit trees (red-fleshed jackfruit) and some valuable industrial crops. He boldly applied technical advances to production. Thanks to that, the family economy has become increasingly prosperous, and his children have been able to receive a full education.

Stories like Mr. Viet and Mr. Chinh are living proof of the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, and rising from hardship of the people of Hung Nghia. Especially, in the bustling atmosphere of celebrating the great holidays of the nation, the heroic land of Hung Nghia seems to be given new motivation. The revolutionary tradition, the indomitable will and the spirit of overcoming difficulties of our ancestors continue to be nurtured, so that today generations of descendants build their homeland to become more and more prosperous and civilized.
