Strengthening connectivity and expanding tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Azerbaijan

On the afternoon of August 28, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh had a meeting and worked with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Vietnam Shovgi Mehdizada on the direction of tourism development cooperation in the coming time.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizada sent his congratulations to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and affirmed that the friendly cooperation between the two countries, established in 1959, has been constantly developing in many fields, including tourism . During the State visit of General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan in May 2025, the Vietnam - Azerbaijan relationship was upgraded to a Strategic Partnership, many important cooperation documents were signed, in which tourism was identified as one of the priority areas.

2025 also marks the first time Azerbaijan will participate in the Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC) with its own booth, and is also planning to hold the “Experience Azerbaijan” Conference at the Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism in September.

The Ambassador emphasized that through cultural and tourism exchange activities, the image of Vietnam is increasingly welcomed by the people of Azerbaijan, especially the youth. Every year, Azerbaijan organizes the program "Vietnam Days" with the participation of many Vietnamese artists, scientists and businesses, thereby contributing to promoting culture, cuisine, music and promoting people-to-people exchange. Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizada highly appreciated the coordination and support of the Vietnamese side, and expressed his hope that the two sides will continue to promote cooperation, especially in exchanging delegations and expanding tourism promotion activities.

Speaking at the reception, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh expressed his appreciation for the Ambassador's positive contributions to promoting tourism cooperation between the two countries. Director Nguyen Trung Khanh affirmed that Vietnam and Azerbaijan have a long-standing traditional friendship, in which Azerbaijan has supported the training of many generations of Vietnamese officials, especially in the oil and gas sector, an important foundation for expanding cooperation in many fields. Currently, Vietjet Air has operated a number of charter flights between the two countries, but the frequency is still limited. Increasing exploitation and moving towards opening regular direct flights is identified as one of the important solutions to promote the exchange of visitors.

Regarding tourism, the demand for tourist exchange between the two countries is currently very large, Vietnamese tourism products are suitable for the Azerbaijani market, but the main difficulty is that there are no direct flights and information sources are limited. Therefore, Azerbaijan's participation in the ITE HCMC 2025 fair with its own booth is considered an important first step to connect the market and promote cooperation.

The Director emphasized that the Vietnam National Tourism Administration is ready to closely coordinate with the Azerbaijan Tourism Administration, aiming to sign a tourism cooperation agreement between the two sides, and hopes that the two sides will strengthen tourism promotion and promote the expansion of direct flights to facilitate tourists. For the "Experience Azerbaijan" seminar, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration will send representatives of leaders and professional units to participate, and at the same time, request the Embassy to soon provide a contact point for effective coordination.
