Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Van Hung assessed that after two days of urgent, serious and effective work, the 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS 16) and the 8th ASEAN Sports Ministers Meeting (AMMS 8) and related conferences had completed the entire agenda, achieved many important results, and continued to affirm the role of sports as a bond of friendship, understanding and spirit of companionship for a sustainable and prosperous ASEAN.
The Minister affirmed that over the past two years, as Chair of the ASEAN Sports Ministers Meeting, Vietnam and its member countries have made efforts to overcome many challenges, maintain connectivity and sportsmanship despite many fluctuations in the regional and global context. Thanks to the close cooperation, support and companionship of ASEAN member countries and dialogue partners, we have effectively implemented many programs, initiatives and practical cooperation activities, contributing to promoting comprehensive sports development, while deepening the close relationship, trust and solidarity in the ASEAN Community.

"The achievements made during the past term are vivid evidence of the spirit of cooperation and the will to move forward together, affirming that sports continue to promote the bonding of ASEAN nations in friendship, understanding, and sustainable development," Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized.
The Minister expressed confidence that, under the chairmanship of Cambodia, a nation rich in cultural traditions, dynamic and hospitable, ASEAN sports cooperation will continue to flourish, further spreading the values of solidarity, understanding and sharing.
During that process, the Minister affirmed that Vietnam is committed to always accompanying, cooperating with, and fully supporting Cambodia in successfully fulfilling this important responsibility, and together nurturing the flame of ASEAN sports to burn brighter - the flame of friendship, respect, trust, and aspiration for greater achievements.

At the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Van Hung handed over the host flag to Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia, officially announcing that the Kingdom of Cambodia will assume the role of host at SOMS 17 and AMMS 9. This moment not only concludes a term but also opens a new chapter, one that, despite many challenges, will be pursued with the spirit of "One ASEAN - One Vision, One Identity, One Community," with the countries in the region writing new and bright chapters for regional sports.
On behalf of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Mr. Vath Chamroeun expressed his gratitude to Vietnam, affirming his pride in continuing this important mission and pledging to promote sports for peace, friendship, and solidarity in the region.
"The upcoming 9th AMMS Conference will be held in Siem Reap – a city rich in cultural and historical identity, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and solidarity of ASEAN. With deep gratitude, Cambodia is committed to organizing a meaningful and successful conference that benefits all ASEAN member states," Mr. Vath Chamroeun affirmed.
According to Cambodia's report at the conference, AMMS 9 is scheduled to take place in November 2027 in Siem Reap. Along with hosting AMMS 9, Cambodia will also host a sports competition showcasing Cambodian traditional sports. Cambodia also hopes that other Southeast Asian countries will include their national traditional sports in this competition. This is a way to further preserve and develop the traditional sports of Southeast Asian countries.
