In his opening speech at the Conference, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that over nearly six decades of continuous development, the ASEAN region has achieved many proud achievements. In particular, sports have played an essential role in building a comprehensively developed ASEAN community, focusing on people, promoting the good values of the region, and the spirit of solidarity, friendship and cooperation is increasingly valued.
On the morning of October 17, the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports + Japan took place.
Over the years, the cooperation relationship between ASEAN and Japan in the field of sports has been strengthened and developed through cooperation programs, thereby contributing to improving the level of sports in the region, especially in knowledge exchange, sharing cooperation for mutual development in areas of community interests such as gender equality, sports for people with disabilities, school sports and sustainable development goals through sports.
"As the host and co-chair of the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports + Japan, Vietnam pledges to continue to make every effort to promote regional cooperation and regional cooperation with Japan, contributing to building a strong and prosperous community. Vietnam also hopes to continue receiving support and active cooperation from ASEAN member countries and Japanese partners," said Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong.

Expressing his thanks and congratulations to Vietnam for successfully organizing AMMS 8 and SOMS-16 along with related conferences, Mr. Junichi Kawai said that the conferences that were successfully organized within the framework of the event and the statements that were adopted will be the foundation for Japan to continue promoting the relationship, cooperation, coordination and sharing of common vision between ASEAN and Japan in the next period to achieve more success.
The 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports + Japan approved the agenda including the following contents: reports of the 7th and 8th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports + Japan; review and approval of the 5th AMMS + Japan joint statement; approval of the 5th AMMS + Japan reports.
Mr. Junichi Kawai, President of the Japan National Sports Agency, Ministry of Education , Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, spoke at the conference.
On behalf of the host country, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong presented a speech, highlighting opinions on the strong, comprehensive and increasingly profound development of the ASEAN - Japan partnership in many fields, including sports - a meaningful cooperation channel, contributing to promoting people-to-people exchange, enhancing understanding, friendship and regional cohesion.
Through the ASEAN-Japan cooperation framework on sports, many programs and projects have been implemented, becoming the foundation for ASEAN-Japan cohesion in a peaceful , prosperous and sustainably developed community.
Affirming in his closing speech at the Conference, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized: "With the spirit of solidarity, friendship and cooperation for mutual development, Vietnam believes that the 5th ASEAN - Japan Ministerial Conference on Sports will continue to be an important milestone in consolidating and enhancing the strategic partnership between ASEAN and Japan in the field of sports."
As an active member of ASEAN, Vietnam always attaches importance to and strongly supports sports cooperation initiatives between ASEAN and Japan, and wishes to continue to cooperate closely with Japan and ASEAN countries in the fields of school sports and community sports development; application of digital technology and artificial intelligence in sports; promoting the exchange of experts, coaches, and young athletes; developing green and sustainable sports, adapting to climate change, and regional development orientation.
The 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports + Japan will be an important milestone in strengthening and elevating the strategic partnership.
In the context of a rapidly changing world, ASEAN-Japan sports cooperation needs to move towards new, sustainable and adaptive values. Vietnam proposes that ASEAN member states and Japan continue to prioritize a number of ASEAN-Japan sports cooperation orientations in the coming time, focusing on five key issues: Promoting research cooperation, sports technology transfer, especially in the fields of e-sports, sports data and sports medicine.
Strengthen the ASEAN-Japan youth sports exchange program, especially the exchange of young athletes in Japan's strong sports, creating opportunities for the young generations of both sides to understand and connect more; Continue to cooperate in developing school sports; Develop sports for sustainable development, linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; Promote sports for people with disabilities and gender equality, taking the spirit of "No one is left behind" as the motto for action.
